A novel method to detect resistant faecal Enterobacteriaceae was developed by applying MIC-gradient strips directly onto agar plates inoculated with faeces. The method provided the susceptibility pattern (MICs) of the dominant bacterial population directly on the plates and also detected smaller resistant subpopulations with a sensitivity of 1/10(5).

Salmonella enterica serovar 4,[5],12:i:- sequence type 34 (ST34) has recently become a global concern for public and animal health. The acquisition of mobile genetic element ICEmST, which contains two copper tolerance gene clusters, cus and pco, influences the epidemic success of this clone. Copper is used as a feed additive in swine at levels that potentially lead to selection pressure for Enterobacteriaceae; however, it remains unclear whether the copper tolerance system of ICEmST functions in vivo.

Gastrointestinal carriage of antimicrobial-resistant bacteria, especially carbapenemase-producing Enterobacterales (CPE), presents a critical public health threat globally. However, in many resource-constrained countries, epidemiological data on CPE is limited. Here, we assessed gastrointestinal carriage and associated factors of CPE among inpatient and outpatient children (≤ 5 years).

Municipal landfills are hotspot sources of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and are also important habitats of contaminant-degrading bacteria. However, high diversity of antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) in landfills hinders assessing AMR risks in the affected environment. More concerned, whether there is co-selection or enrichment of antibiotic-resistant bacteria and contaminant-degrading bacteria in these extremely polluted environments is far less understood.

Background: Infections are common complications and causes of death during immunochemotherapy in diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL). The gut microbiota plays a significant role in bacterial infection, but its relationship and predictive capacity with infectious complications in DLBCL are unknown.
Methods: We performed 16S rRNA gene sequencing of fecal samples collected from 41 patients with newly diagnosed DLBCL at baseline, after every two cycles of standard immunochemotherapy, during infection, and after infection recovery.

Background: Salmonella enterica is a major cause of foodborne illness and mortality worldwide, but its presence in milk along the milk supply chain and associated public health risks are under-studied. This research was aimed to investigate the occurrence and antimicrobial susceptibility of Salmonella enterica in milk, milking environments, milkers' hands, and diarrheic patients in Wolaita Sodo, Ethiopia.
Methods: We collected 644 samples from 106 dairy farms that include direct milk from cow, bulk tank milk, milkers' hand swabs, teat surfaces swabs, farm floors swabs, milk storage containers swabs, collectors' bulk milk, retailers' bulk milk, and stool from diarrheic patients.
