AI Article Synopsis

  • Nine new phenanthrenes and a new benzyl glycoside were identified from Bletilla formosana, alongside 45 known compounds.
  • The structures of these new compounds were determined using 1D and 2D NMR spectroscopy.
  • The isolated compounds showed promising anti-inflammatory activity, with varying IC50 values, indicating that phenanthrenes were the most potent inhibitors compared to other types.

Article Abstract

Nine new phenanthrenes (1-9) and a new benzyl glycoside (10) together with 45 known compounds were isolated from the rhizomes of Bletilla formosana. The structures of 1-10 were elucidated primarily on the basis of their 1D and 2D NMR spectroscopic data. Most of the isolated compounds were evaluated for their anti-inflammatory activities. The results showed that IC50 values for the inhibition of superoxide anion generation and elastase release ranged from 0.2 to 6.5 μM and 0.3 to 5.7 μM, respectively. Structure-activity relationships of the isolated compounds were also investigated. The inhibitory potencies were determined as phenanthrenes > bibenzyls > biphenanthrenes.

Based on UHPLC-Q-Exactive Orbitrap HRMS coupled with the network pharmacology and molecular docking, the common material basis and molecular mechanisms of Bletillae Rhizoma for melasma, gastrointestinal hemorrhage, lung cancer and bronchoplumonary inflammation as "homotherapy for heteropathy" were explored. The fingerprint of 17 batches of Bletillae Rhizoma from different areas was established using HPLC, and the similarity analysis was carried out. The common chemical components of the 17 batches of Bletillae Rhizoma were identified using UHPLC-Q-Exactive Orbitrap HRMS.

In heterogeneous landscapes with temporary water deficit characteristics in southwestern China, understanding the electrophysiological and morphological characteristics of under different water conditions can help to better evaluate its suitability for planting plants in specific locations and guide planting and production. Using seedlings as experimental materials, the maximum field capacity (FC) was 75-80% (CK: control group), 50-60% FC (LS: light drought stress), 40-45% FC (MS: moderate drought stress), and 30-35% FC (SS: severe drought stress). In terms of physiological response, the activities of peroxidase (POD) and catalase (CAT) decreased under drought conditions, but the activity was well under the LS treatment, and the contents of proline (Pro) and malondialdehyde (MDA) increased.

Background: Nanovaccines have shown the promising potential in controlling and eradicating the threat of infectious diseases worldwide. There has been a great need in developing a versatile strategy to conveniently construct diverse types of nanovaccines and induce potent immune responses. To that end, it is critical for obtaining a potent self-adjuvant platform to assemble with different types of antigens into nanovaccines.

Uncontrolled bleeding and infection following trauma remain a clinical challenge. Here, we developed a synergistic hemostatic and antibacterial aerogel dressing based on oxidized Bletilla rhizome polysaccharide Schiff Base (ORBPS) and polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) by using a combined freeze-drying/cross-linking process. Bletilla rhizome polysaccharide (RBP) was extracted by water extraction and alcohol precipitation.

Bletilla striata is a precious traditional Chinese medical herb with a wide range of applications in pharmacological and cosmetic fields. Because of the shortage of resources, Bletilla ochracea and Bletilla formosanare are also used as the substitutes. To distinguish the differences and homologies, the typical morphologic and microscopic characteristics of them were compared, and a UPLC fingerprint analysis coupled with chemometric methods were developed for characterization and quality evaluation of Bletillae Rhizoma.
