Chromosome aberrations and autoimmunity: Immune-mediated diseases associated with 18p deletion and other chromosomal aberrations.

Autoimmun Rev

January 2025

Division of Rheumatology, Universidade Federal de São Paulo (UNIFESP), São Paulo, Brazil; Fleury Medicine and Health, Fleury Group, São Paulo, SP, Brazil. Electronic address:

Recent advances in genomic methodologies have significantly enhanced our understanding of immune-mediated rheumatic diseases. Specific structural variants (SVs), such as substantial DNA deletions or insertions, including chromosomal aberrations, have been implicated in diseases of immune dysregulation. Regrettably, SVs are frequently overlooked in next-generation sequencing (NGS) targeted-gene panels, whole exome sequencing (WES) and whole genome sequencing (WGS).

Advances in bacterial glycoprotein engineering: A critical review of current technologies, emerging challenges, and future directions.

Biotechnol Adv

January 2025

TEDA Institute of Biological Sciences and Biotechnology, Tianjin Key Laboratory of Microbial Functional Genomics, Nankai University, Tianjin, PR China; Key Laboratory of Molecular Microbiology and Technology, Ministry of Education, Nankai University, Tianjin, PR China; Nankai International Advanced Research Institute, Nankai University, Shenzhen, China. Electronic address:

Protein glycosylation, which involves the addition of carbohydrate chains to amino acid side chains, imparts essential properties to proteins, offering immense potential in synthetic biology applications. Despite its importance, natural glycosylation pathways present several limitations, highlighting the need for new tools to better understand glycan structures, recognition, metabolism, and biosynthesis, and to facilitate the production of biologically relevant glycoproteins. The field of bacterial glycoengineering has gained significant attention due to the ongoing discovery and study of bacterial glycosylation systems.

Targeting lipid metabolism via nanomedicine: A prospective strategy for cancer therapy.

Biomaterials

December 2024

Division of Pancreatic Surgery, Department of General Surgery, Department of Radiology, Huaxi MR Research Center (HMRRC), Liver Transplant Center, Laboratory of Liver Transplantation, Frontiers Science Center for Disease-Related Molecular Network, State Key Laboratory of Biotherapy, West China Hospital, Sichuan University, Chengdu, 610041, China. Electronic address:

Lipid metabolism has been increasingly recognized to play an influencing role in tumor initiation, progression, metastasis, and therapeutic drug resistance. Targeting lipid metabolic reprogramming represents a promising therapeutic strategy. Despite their structural complexity and poor targeting efficacy, lipid-metabolizing drugs, either used alone or in combination with chemotherapeutic agents, have been employed in clinical practice.

A new approach on design and verification of integrated sustainable urban drainage systems for stormwater management in urban areas.

J Environ Manage

January 2025

Politecnico di Milano, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Italy. Electronic address:

Stormwater runoff control is often a concern due to urbanization and extreme rainfall events. Sustainable urban drainage systems can support traditional hydraulic networks in rainwater management by providing local runoff disposal and reuse of collected stormwater. The objective of the study is based on an innovative analytical-probabilistic approach for evaluating the functioning of rainwater tanks in stormwater management with the potential for using collected water for non-potable purposes.

Chitosan is a kind of natural material with many unique physicochemical and biological properties related to antibacterial, antioxidant, and chelating. In recent years, chitosan-based nano gels (CS-NG) have been widely used in the field of cancer nanomedicine due to their excellent characteristics including biodegradability, biocompatibility, flexibility, large surface area, controllability, high loading capacity, and especially it can be engineered to become stimuli-responsive to tumor environments. In this review, we summarized the main synthesis approaches of CS-NGs including radical polymerization, self-assembly, microemulsion, and ionic gelation methods.
