Background/aim: To investigate the biometric components and refractive errors in premature infants with or without retinopathy of prematurity (ROP).

Materials And Methods: Anterior chamber depth, lens thickness, vitreous length, and axial length were measured with an ultrasound biometer. Cycloplegic refraction was performed by streak skiascopy. Infants with or without ROP were grouped according to postmenstrual age at the time of ocular examination: Group 1, ≤33 weeks; Group 2, 34-37 weeks; Group 3, 38-41 weeks; Group 4, 42-45 weeks; Group 5, ≥46 weeks.

Results: The mean postnatal age of 894 infants (451 females and 443 males) was 8.7 ± 4.5 weeks, gestational age was 30.9 ± 2.8 weeks, and birth weight was 1506 ± 484 g. In Group 2, the mean vitreous length and axial length of infants with ROP were significantly lower than those of infants without ROP (P = 0.011, P = 0.001). The mean anterior chamber depth, lens thickness, spherical equivalent, and astigmatism in all groups did not differ significantly among the infants with or without ROP (P > 0.05).

Conclusion: The anterior chamber depth, lens thickness, vitreous length, and axial length showed a linear growth throughout the follow-up period. The maximum elongation was observed in vitreous length and axial length.

Background: Ozurdex® (Allergan®, AbbVie Company, North Chicago, Illinois, EUA), is composed of 0.7 mg of dexamethasone, fused in a solid biodegradable PLGA polymer, whose degradation occurs naturally in the vitreous cavity, usually in six months after its application.

Methods: In this study, we included patients aged ≥ 18 years with one or two eyes who had an indication for Ozurdex implants.

Purpose: To evaluate demographic profile, risk factors and outcomes following intraocular lens (IOL) exchange surgery for late decentration of IOLs in the dead bag syndrome DESIGN: Prospective, interventional case series PARTICIPANTS: 46 eyes (43 patients) with late decentration/dislocation of IOLs and spontaneous posterior capsule rupture in a clear and relatively intact capsular bag. None of the eyes had significant zonular weakness.

Methods: Study conducted at Raghudeep Eye Hospital, India.

Department of Forensic Medicine, Faculty of Medical Sciences, University of Fukui, 23-3 Matsuoka, Shimoaizuki, Eiheiji-cho, Yoshida-gun, Fukui 910-1193, Japan.

Porcine eyes were examined using postmortem computed tomography (PMCT) under controlled postmortem time and temperature conditions to assess the mechanisms and timing of changes in ocular structure. Eight porcine heads were halved, and PMCT scans were conducted from postmortem interval (PMI) days 0 to 13. CT images were obtained to evaluate the vitreous volumes, vitreous CT values, axial lengths of the eyes, lens dislocation, and intraocular gas.

Proliferative vitreoretinopathy (PVR) is a major cause of rhegmatogenous retinal detachment repair failure. Despite many attempts to find therapeutics for PVR, no pharmacotherapy has been proven effective. Steroids, as the epitome, show uncertain clinical effectiveness, which lacks an explanation and hints at unappreciated mechanisms of PVR.

Understanding cataract development in axial myopia: The contribution of oxidative stress and related pathways.

Department of Ophthalmology, Kornel Gibiński University Clinical Center, Medical University of Silesia, Katowice, Poland; Department of Ophthalmology, Faculty of Medical Sciences in Katowice, Medical University of Silesia, Katowice, Poland; GlaucoTech Co, Katowice, Poland.

Myopia is an evolving global health challenge, with estimates suggesting that by 2050 it will affect half of the world's population, becoming the leading cause of irreversible vision loss. Moreover, myopia can lead to various complications, including the earlier onset of cataracts. Given the progressive aging of the population and the increase in life expectancy, this will contribute to a rising demand for cataract surgery, posing an additional challenge for healthcare systems.
