Unlabelled: The aim of our study was to determine the efficacy and tolerability of local therapy with polyhexamethylene biguanid hydrochloride (BIGUANELLE) in women with anaerobic vaginal infection.

Material And Methods: We include in our study 23 women (18-50) with established by AMSEL criteria bacterial vaginosis. In all of the women at the beginning and at the end of the survey was performed gynecological examination and microbiological research (AMSEL). The therapeutic scheme at all women is with a single vaginal application of gynecological solution BIGUANELLE. Effectiveness of the treatment was evaluated according to clinical complaints and microbiological research (Amsel criteria: Ph 4.5 >; KOH (+); "clue cells"; specific vaginal fluorine). Tolerability of patients to treatment was assessed by questionnaire.

Results: Clinical complaints of patients after the therapy decreased as follows: vaginal fluorine with 73.9%; odor--75%; pruritus--50%; discomfort--90%. Microbiological research and their evaluation by AMSEL, showed the therapeutic efficacy of the therapy in 16 (69.6%) of all (n-23) patients. At 7 (30.4%) women, the treatment remained without effect. At questionnaire answers, 73.9% patients were satisfied with the application of BIGUANELLE, 95.6% of them have implemented it easily, 95.6% of women believe that BIGUANELLE is more convenient to use in comparison with similar products which have a daily application, and none of the patients (100%) have any complaints in applying this gynecological solution.

Conclusions: BIGUANELLE showed good clinical efficacy in the treatment of bacterial vaginosis. It is easily applied and well tolerated by the patients.

Caries is a chronic oral disease causing a series of complications. This study aims to develop a material that could remineralize demineralized enamel and simultaneously exert antibacterial effects. A carboxymethyl chitosan (CMC)/amorphous calcium phosphate (ACP)/polyhexamethylene biguanide hydrochloride (PHMB) nanocomposite was synthesized for the first time, and its stability, remineralization ability, and antibacterial properties were investigated in this study.

Diabetic nephropathy (DKD) is a diabetesrelated kidney injury with an increasing incidence every year. Metformin hydrochloride (MET), a cornerstone treatment for glucose lowering, has been widely reported for the treatment of DKD, but the specific molecular mechanisms and potential therapeutic targets still need to be further explored. We used kidney tissues from db/db mice as samples and used proteomics and bioinformatics to analyse the function, distribution and related pathways of differential proteins in DKD, focusing on the assessment of the binding energies of key proteins in the butyrate pathway and drugs at the molecular level, which showed that the expression profiles of differential proteins in kidney tissues were altered after MET treatment, involving energy metabolism.

Effect of Pre-Sowing Seed Stimulation on Maize Seedling Vigour.

Int J Mol Sci

November 2024

Department of Plant Ecophysiology, Faculty of Biology and Environmental Protection, University of Lodz, Banacha 12/16, 90-237 Łódź, Poland.

Article Synopsis
  • The study explored the effects of various treatments on maize seeds using fish collagen, keratin, PHMB, and bentonite derived from animal waste to promote sustainable crop production.
  • The results showed that certain combinations of these treatments, particularly those including bentonite, led to increased fresh and dry weights of maize shoots and roots compared to untreated seeds.
  • Overall, the findings suggest that these biodegradable materials could be effective agents for enhancing seed growth and agricultural yield.

Guanidinium-Functionalized Carbon Dots: An Efficient Antibacterial Agent against Multidrug-Resistant ESKAPE Pathogens.

ACS Appl Mater Interfaces

December 2024

Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Laboratory of Nuclear Radiation DNA Damage and Repair, School of Basic Medicine, Hengyang Medical School, University of South China, Hengyang 421001, China.

Article Synopsis
  • The rise of multidrug-resistant (MDR) bacteria, particularly ESKAPE pathogens, presents a significant challenge in healthcare due to their ability to resist antibiotic treatment.
  • Researchers reported the development of guanidinium-functionalized carbon dots (GCDs) derived from onion powder, which showed strong antibacterial properties against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, including ESKAPE pathogens.
  • GCDs not only prevented the development of drug resistance and showed no cytotoxic effects but also promoted wound healing in rat models infected with mixed MDR bacteria, indicating their potential as an effective treatment option for clinical infections.

Exploring the protective mechanism of metformin against septic cardiomyopathy based on the mitogen-activated protein kinase P38 (P38 MAPK)/c-Jun amino-terminal kinase (JNK) signaling pathway. This paper is an experimental animal study design, which was completed from January to December 2023 at the Xiangya Hospital, Central South University. Forty-eight 8-week-old female C57BL/6 mice were divided into four groups: group A (control group), group B (model group), group C (model+trimetazidine hydrochloride), and group D (model+metformin group), with 12 mice in each group, by using a randomized numeric table method.
