Crustaceans are perishable with a short shelf-life. They are prone to deterioration after capture, particularly during handling, processing, and storage due to melanosis caused by polyphenoloxidase (PPO). Therefore, inhibitory effects of chitooligosaccharide (CHOS) in comparison with CHOS-catechin (CHOS-CAT), CHOS-epigallocatechin gallate (CHOS-EGCG), and CHOS-gallic acid (CHOS-GAL) conjugates on Pacific white shrimp cephalothorax PPO were studied.

Melanosis of the urinary bladder is an extremely rare benign condition in which melanin deposits occur in the urothelial and stromal cells. We report such a case in which melanosis of the urinary bladder was detected in a 55-year-old woman with known multiple sclerosis during an extended workup due to urinary urgency complaints. The findings were confirmed by biopsy.

Purpose: To evaluate the standard of care, in particular the use of topical or subconjunctival interferon-2b, in treating ocular surface squamous neoplasia or melanocytic tumours in tertiary eye centres in Germany.
Methods: A survey containing 14 questions was sent to 43 tertiary eye centres in Germany. The questions addressed the surgical and medical management of ocular surface squamous neoplasia and melanocytic tumours (primary acquired melanosis and malignant melanoma), as well as the clinical experiences and difficulties in prescribing off-label interferon-2b eye drops and subconjunctival injections.

Laugier-Hunziker syndrome (LHS) is characterized by lentiginous hyperpigmentation of the oral mucosa and lips. In addition, longitudinal melanonychia and palmoplantar hyperpigmented lesions may occur. LHS is a clinical diagnosis of exclusion.
