Of the five identified radiographic patterns of ILC, the most common was a poorly defined asymmetric density with architectural distortion. Areas of ILC frequently are of low density, not much greater than that of the surrounding parenchyma. The mammographic appearance may reflect the behavior of ILC tumor cells, which travel in linear array ("single file") along and around the arborizing ducts that serve as scaffolding for these small, malignant cells that permeate the parenchyma without a central nidus. This feature of ILC may also help explain why tumors may be palpable as areas of vague induration or thickening rather than as discrete masses. When tumors are hidden in dense breast tissue (pattern 3) and not well imaged by mammography or when there are subtle mammographic changes (pattern 1), sonography may help confirm the presence of a solid mass. Most of the suspected tumors imaged by sonography were palpable as discrete masses or areas of induration.

Large-scale rock burst disasters often occur in high-stress and deep-buried tunnels, due to challenges in accurate forecasting and the lack of clarity regarding the underlying mechanisms largely. This study combined on-site stress drilling tests, coupled finite and discrete element simulations, and theoretical calculations to examine unloading damage, rockburst evolution, and deformation failure of the high-stress and deep-buried Xuefengshan No.1 tunnel.

The shear failure of rock masses is one of the primary causes of underground engineering instability. The shear mechanical behavior of rocks at different sizes is of great significance for studying the shear failure pattern of engineering rock masses. However, due to the presence of various joints and defects in natural rocks, the obtained rock specimens exhibit significant discreteness, making it difficult to customize specimen sizes for size effect studies.

Pipelines are the primary mode of oil and gas transport in cold regions. Differential frost heaving of frozen and non-frozen soil masses can damage such pipelines, posing economic and environmental risks. The present study investigates the mechanical behaviors of buried pipelines under differential frost heaving forces.

Friction-induced vibration, particularly associated with the squealing problem in disk brake systems, has been a longstanding challenge in the automotive industry. In our research, we employed the synchronization theory to gain insights into the interaction between two coupled cantilever beams attached with tip masses. This proposed model emulates the dynamics of a mountain bike disk brake assembly.

Differential use of resources among bird species has been examined extensively in diet and nesting sites, but few studies have assessed this regarding avian nest materials. We assessed the structure and composition of nests in a group of co-existing passerine shrubland birds at a site in Massachusetts, USA. We found, measured, collected, and dissected nests, and then weighed nest materials in morphological groups (e.
