Published: December 2016

Unlabelled: Gaining insights into the structural determinants of protein-protein interactions holds the key for a deeper understanding of biological functions, diseases and development of therapeutics. An important aspect of this is the ability to accurately predict the binding strength for a given protein-protein complex. Here we present PROtein binDIng enerGY prediction (PRODIGY), a web server to predict the binding affinity of protein-protein complexes from their 3D structure. The PRODIGY server implements our simple but highly effective predictive model based on intermolecular contacts and properties derived from non-interface surface.

Availability And Implementation: PRODIGY is freely available at: http://milou.science.uu.nl/services/PRODIGY CONTACT: a.m.j.j.bonvin@uu.nl, a.vangone@uu.nl.

Nanobodies (Nbs or VHHs) are single-domain antibodies (sdAbs) derived from camelid heavy-chain antibodies. Nbs have special and unique characteristics, such as small size, good tissue penetration, and cost-effective production, making Nbs a good candidate for the diagnosis and treatment of viruses and other pathologies. Identifying effective Nbs against COVID-19 would help us control this dangerous virus or other unknown variants in the future.

Novel surgical approaches for treating myopic traction maculopathy: a meta-analysis.

BMC Ophthalmol

March 2024

Juarez Hospital, Colonia Magdalena de Las Salinas, Av. Politecnico Nacional 5160, 07760, Mexico City, Mexico.

Background: Myopic traction maculopathy (MTM) is a complication of pathological myopia and encompasses various pathological conditions caused by tractional changes in the eye. These changes include retinoschisis, foveal retinal detachment, and lamellar or full-thickness macular holes (FTMHs). This meta-analysis evaluated the safety and efficacy of novel surgical for treating MTM.

Background: Allergy is an inflammatory disorder affecting around 20% of the global population. The adverse effects of current conventional treatments give rise to the increased popularity of using natural food products as complementary and alternative medicine against allergic diseases. Stingless bee honey, commonly known as Kelulut honey (KH) in Malaysia, has been used locally as a traditional remedy to relieve cough and asthma.

Computational Analysis of the Potential Impact of MTC Complex Missenses SNPs Associated with Male Infertility.

Biomed Res Int

April 2022

Laboratory of Genomics and Human Genetics, 1 Place Louis Pasteur, Institut Pasteur du Maroc, Casablanca, Morocco.

Meiotic chromosomes endure rapid prophase movements that ease the formation of interhomologue recombination intermediates that drive synapsis, crossing over, and segregation process. To generate these fast moves, the meiotic telomere complex (MTC) enables telomere-inner nuclear membrane attachment during meiotic prophase I and transfers cytoskeletal signals via another complex: the LINC complex. Furthermore, disruption or mutations of any of the MTC genes (TERB1, TERB2, and MAJIN) alters telomere association with the nuclear envelope leading to impairment of homologous pairing and synapsis, a meiotic arrest, and consequently to male infertility.
