Objective: The aim of our study was to investigate the effects Korean Red Ginseng (KRG) on cisplatin (CDDP) ototoxicity in vivo and in vitro.
Materials And Methods: The first part of the study was conducted on the House Ear Institute-Organ of Corti 1 (HEI-OC1) cell line. Cells were treated with CDDP, KRG, and their combination for 24 h. Cell viability, apoptosis, and the expression of 84 apoptosis-related genes were analyzed. In the second part of the study, 30 Wistar albino rats were divided into five groups. Baseline distortion product otoacoustic emissions (DPOAEs) and auditory brainstem response (ABR) measurements were obtained. In groups I, II, and III, only saline, KRG, and CDDP, respectively, were given. In group IV, 500 mg/kg KRG and in group V, 150 mg/kg of KRG were administered for 10 days. In groups III, IV, and V, 16 mg/kg CDDP injections were administered on day 11. On day 14, final DPOAEs and ABR measurements were completed. The rats were then sacrificed, and their inner ear structures were evaluated by transmission electron microscopy.
Results: In the first part of the study, pretreatment with 1 mg/mL KRG protected cells from CDDP ototoxicity. This protection was mainly due to a decline in apoptotic gene expression and an increase in antiapoptotic gene expression. In the in vivo part of the study, we found that both KRG doses had otoprotective effects. This protection was more prominent at the lower dose, especially on the spiral ganglion and the brainstem.
Conclusion: KRG was shown to be an otoprotective agent against CDDP-induced ototoxicity both in vivo and in vitro.

With the development of the Korean economy, demand for high-quality beef, specifically Hanwoo beef, is escalating, with marbling traits-measured by the widely used marbling score-being a key contributor to meat palatability. The differences between the high-quality and the lower-quality meat, according to the satisfaction of the customers, are not the result from only the degree of marbling but also from the delicacy of the marbling flecks distribution. Using the computer marbling analysis technique, an index for quantifying marbling fineness of 256 sirloin cuts at 12th- 13th thoracic vertebra named F7 index was developed in this study.

Microangiopathic hemolytic anemia (MAHA) is a rare subtype of hemolytic anemia characterized by elevated hemolytic markers and red blood cell destruction. Though uncommon, MAHA can occur as a complication of acute pancreatitis because of the associated inflammatory response. Patients with MAHA secondary to pancreatitis show favorable outcomes when treated with plasma exchange.

Interferon regulatory factor 2 (IRF2) is a member of the IRF family that is specifically involved in diverse immune responses via interferon (IFN)/IRF-dependent signaling pathways. In this study, IRF2 of Epinephelus akaara (EAIRF2) was identified and characterized by evaluating its structural and functional properties. EAIRF2 showed the highest homology with IRF2 of Epinephelus coioides and clustered with teleosts in the phylogenetic tree.

Artificial oxygen carriers have emerged as potential substitutes for red blood cells in situations of major blood loss, including accidents, surgical procedures, trauma, childbirth, stomach ulcers, hemorrhagic shock, and blood vessel ruptures which can lead to sudden reduction in blood volume. The therapeutic delivery of oxygen utilizing artificial oxygen carriers as red blood cell substitutes presents a promising avenue for treating a spectrum of disease models. Apart from that, the recent advancement of artificial oxygen carriers intended to supplant conventional blood transfusions draws significant attention due to the exigencies of warfare and the ongoing challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

This study focuses on achieving high photocatalytic activity using MoS/TiO heterostructures (MOT). To this end, MoS and TiO were synthesized by employing hydrothermal synthesis techniques, and then MoS/TiO heterostructures were synthesized by using 1:1, 1:2, 1:3, and 1:4 ratios of MoS and TiO, respectively. While the structural and electronic changes for the 1:2 and 1:3 ratios were relatively minor, significant modifications in bandgaps and morphology were observed for the 1:1 and 1:4 ratios.
