Both conventional and more recent antipsychotics are effective in the treatment of hallucinatory and delusional symptoms in psychotic patients. With the exception of clozapine, no major differences in the efficacy of different antipsychotics have been found in clinical drug trials. There are, however, significant differences between drugs in their adverse effects, and the new antipsychotics or dosage forms introduced over the past ten years actually provide novel alternatives for the treatment of patients having body weight issues or cardiometabolic risk factors. Long-acting injections in turn reduce the need for psychiatric hospital care.

The purpose of the present study was to evaluate and compare the clinical outcomes of two groups of patients subject to bi-cruciate retaining (BCR) or posterior-stabilized (PS) implants. It was hypothesized that patients treated with BCR prostheses would present higher flexion and better clinical and functional results than those treated with PS implants. This prospective study included thirty-two patients treated for primary knee osteoarthritis and assigned to two matched groups for their demographic characteristics and comorbidities.

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is one of the most prevalent and deadly malignancies worldwide. Recently, ferroptosis, a novel form of regulated cell death characterized by iron dependency and lipid peroxidation, has garnered significant attention from researchers. The mechanisms underlying ferroptosis, including intracellular iron levels, lipid peroxidation, and antioxidant system regulation, offer new insights into cancer treatment strategies.

EquiRank: Improved protein-protein interface quality estimation using protein language-model-informed equivariant graph neural networks.

Comput Struct Biotechnol J

December 2024

Department of Computer Science, Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, 24061, VA, USA.

Quality estimation of the predicted interaction interface of protein complex structural models is not only important for complex model evaluation and selection but also useful for protein-protein docking. Despite recent progress fueled by symmetry-aware deep learning architectures and pretrained protein language models (pLMs), existing methods for estimating protein complex quality have yet to fully exploit the collective potentials of these advances for accurate estimation of protein-protein interface. Here we present EquiRank, an improved protein-protein interface quality estimation method by leveraging the strength of a symmetry-aware E(3) equivariant deep graph neural network (EGNN) and integrating pLM embeddings from the pretrained ESM-2 model.

Functions of METTL1/WDR4 and QKI as m7G modification - related enzymes in digestive diseases.

Front Pharmacol

January 2025

Department of Metabolism and Endocrinology, The First Affiliated Hospital, Hengyang Medical School, University of South China, Hengyang, China.

N-methylguanosine (m7G) modification is one of the most prevalent forms of chemical modification in RNA molecules, which plays an important role in biological processes such as RNA stability, translation regulation and ribosome recognition. Methyl-transferation of m7G modification is catalyzed by the enzyme complex of methyltransferase-like 1 (METTL1) and WD repeat domain 4 (WDR4), and Quaking (QKI) recognizes internal m7G methylated mRNA and regulates mRNA translation and stabilization. Recent studies have found that m7G modification - related enzymes are associated with the onset and progression of digestive cancer, such as colorectal cancer, liver cancer, and other digestive diseases such as ulcerative colitis.
