Published: October 2016

Purpose: Four patients with intraorbital foreign bodies admitting to our clinic between 2001 and 2011 are presented. Their clinical and radiologic findings and surgical strategies are discussed.

Objective: The success of surgery for the intraorbital foreign bodies largely depends on the determination of the exact localization of them. Radiologic examination should follow clinical diagnosis. Computed tomographic views are especially required to demonstrate the foreign body.

Materials And Methods: Four patients with different etiologies of trauma are presented. Each had computed tomography views for foreign body localization. All but 1 had surgery for removal of the object under general anesthesia.

Results: No complications were observed postoperatively. Only 1 patient is followed up without an operation due to the risk of damaging delicate structures that the foreign body is close to. He has no loss of function.

Conclusion: Early removal of foreign bodies in orbital region is usually preferred due to the risk of neurologic damage and other complications. Surgical removal is quite challenging for foreign bodies like wood. Magnets can be used for metallic bodies.

Foreign body ingestion, though rare, poses significant health risks, with 10%-20% of cases requiring endoscopic intervention. This article presents a novel case of a 16-year-old female who ingested a cigarette lighter, leading to abdominal pain and radiographic confirmation of a gastric foreign body. Initial attempts at retrieval using grasping forceps and snares were unsuccessful due to the object's size and shape, risking potential complications.

Hemolymph enables communication between organs in insects and ensures necessary coordination and homeostasis. Its composition can provide important information about the physiological state of an insect and can have diagnostic significance, which might be particularly important in the case of harmful insects subjected to biological control. Linnaeus 1758 (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae) is a global pest to honey bee colonies.

Division of Gastroenterology, Department of Medicine, Tri-Service General Hospital, National Defense Medical Center, No. 325, Section 2, Chenggong Road, Neihu District, Taipei City 114202, Taiwan.

Ingestion of foreign bodies is a prevalent issue in clinical practice, with fish bones being the predominant cause. While the upper gastrointestinal tract is commonly affected, small intestine impactions pose significant diagnostic challenges due to nonspecific symptoms and lack of awareness of foreign body ingestion. Herein, we describe a case presenting with recurrent, unexplained abdominal pain and hematochezia.

Background: Foreign body aspiration is a preventable occurrence that carries a high risk of mortality in the pediatric population. Clinically, foreign body aspiration manifests as cough, followed by choking, which might not be given any consideration by the caregivers of the child. An episode of sudden wheezing can also raise the suspicion of a foreign body in the lower respiratory tract.

Individual identification of unknown deceased is a vital function carried out by medical professionals, thus many tools have been developed or tested towards its end. One of the tools tested and still being tested is post-mortem computed tomography [PMCT]. This review aims to summarise the current state of using PMCT for personal identification beyond odontology.
