The Research to Practice column is intended to improve the research critique skills of the advanced practice registered nurse and emergency nurse (RN) and to assist with the translation of research into practice. For each column, a topic and a research study are selected. The stage is set with a case presentation. The research article is then reviewed and critiqued, and the findings are discussed in relation to the case presented. In the current column, we examine the findings of from their article, titled "Two Days of Dexamethasone Versus 5 Days of Prednisone in the Treatment of Acute Asthma: A Randomized Controlled Trial."

Background: Gravid females with pelvic fractures are rarely encountered by the orthopaedic trauma surgeon. The initial injury can be detrimental to the pregnant patient, but an unnecessary "second hit" from surgery could also contribute to the outcome of the fetus. Understanding the surgical risks for this unique patient population requires knowledge about the negative effects of anesthesia, surgical exposures, and radiation.

Traditional packed beds in chromatography suffer from increased band broadening due to the random nature of packing, leading non-ideal fluid flow and channeling. To address these challenges, pillar array columns have been developed, offering improved performance over random packing thanks to their homogenous fluid profiles. Concrete-filled steel tube (CFST) columns are widely employed in high-rise buildings, long-span bridges, and seismic-resistant structures due to their superior load-bearing capacity, structural efficiency, and resilience under extreme loading conditions. This study uses symbolic regression with structural design code provisions to predict the eccentric strength of concrete filled-steel tubular columns with circular shape (CCFST) and rectangular shape (RCFST). Previous studies have used two distinct approaches for estimating eccentric strength: explainable models based on theoretical derivations and black-box models derived from machine learning (ML) methods.
