Complete hardware removal is recommended in the case of patients with cardiovascular implantable electronic device (CIED) infections. However, the complete extraction of chronically implanted leads is not always achieved. The outcomes and optimal management of CIED infections with retained material after lead extractions have not been elucidated. In this case report, we present five patients with CIED infections with remnant lead tips even after lead extractions. Two patients had localized pocket infections, and were managed with antibiotics for a period of more than two weeks. The other three patients had infective endocarditis, and were managed with antibiotics for a period of more than four weeks. In one patient, the lead tip migrated to the right pulmonary artery, but did not produce any symptoms or complications. Only one of five patients experienced a resurgence of an infection.

Relation extraction independently verifies all entity pairs in a sentence to identify predefined relationships between named entities. Because these entity pairs share the same contextual features of a sentence, they lead to a complicated semantic structure. To distinguish semantic expressions between relation instances, manually designed rules or elaborate deep architectures are usually applied to learn task-relevant representations.

Background: Acute pharyngitis (AP) is a common condition marked by inflammation of the oropharynx, which can lead to severe throat swelling, breathing difficulties, and even suffocation, significantly impacting quality of life. Despite the beneficial anti-inflammatory activity of Glycyrrhizae Radix Et Rhizoma (GRER) and Isoliquiritigenin (ISL), their pharmacological mechanisms against AP remain unclear.

Purpose: This study explores the mechanisms by which GRER treats AP, utilizing both transcriptomics and metabolomics approaches.

Background: Despite the lack of clinically validated strategies for treating spinal cord injury (SCI), combining therapeutic strategies with rehabilitation is believed to promote recovery of motor function; however, current research findings are inconsistent.

Objectives: To explore whether combination therapy involving therapy and rehabilitative training (CIRT) has a synergistic effect on motor function recovery in animal models of SCI.

Methods: We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis of studies identified in a keyword search of 6 databases and extracted open-field motor scores from the Basso Mouse Scale (BMS) and the Basso, Beattie, and Bresnahan Locomotor Rating Scale (BBB) for meta-analysis using a weighted mean difference (WMD) and 95 % CI.
