Background: Exercise-induced bronchoconstriction (EIB) is common in children with asthma but can be present also in children without asthma, especially athletes. Differential diagnosis includes several conditions such as exercise-induced laryngeal obstruction (EILO), cardiac disease, or physical deconditioning. New autoimmune disorder development after immune reconstitution therapy for multiple sclerosis.

Sci Rep

December 2024

Clinic of Neurology and Neurosurgery, Institute of Clinical Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, Vilnius University, Vilnius, Lithuania.

Immune reconstitution therapy (IRT) is a relatively new and highly effective treatment option for multiple sclerosis (MS). Uncertainty regarding the development of autoimmune disorders (ADs) after some therapies remains. The aim of this study was to assess new AD development after IRT in MS patients and to describe the nature of those ADs and the time to onset.

Leachables leached from a medical device during its clinical use are important due to the patient health-related effects they may have. Thus, medical devices are profiled for leachables (and/or extractables as probable leachables) by screening extracts or leachates of the medical device for released organic substances via non-targeted analysis (NTA) employing chromatographic methods coupled with mass spectrometric detection. Chromatographic mass spectral response factors for extractables and leachables vary significantly from compound to compound, complicating the application of assessment strategies such as the Analytical Evaluation Threshold (AET), which is the concentration threshold at or above which an extractable or leachable must be reported for quantitative toxicological risk assessment.

Background: Recurrent attacks in neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorders (NMOSDs) or myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein antibody-associated disease (MOGAD) can lead to severe disability. We aimed to analyse the real-world use of immunotherapies in patients with NMOSD and MOGAD, focusing on changes in treatment strategies, effects on attack rates (ARR) and risk factors for attacks.

Methods: This longitudinal registry-based cohort study included 493 patients (320 with aquaporin-4 immunoglobulin G (AQP4-IgG) seropositive NMOSD (65%), 44 with AQP4-IgG seronegative NMOSD (9%) and 129 MOGAD (26%)) with 1247 treatments from 19 German and one Austrian centre from the registry of the neuromyelitis optica study group (NEMOS).

BARRIERS TO PRESCRIPTION OF HORMONAL CONTRACEPTION AND HORMONE REPLACEMENT THERAPY IN GYNECOLOGICAL CANCER SURVIVORS: RESULTS OF A SURVEY AND LITERATURE REVIEW.

J Gynecol Obstet Hum Reprod

December 2024

Instituto Português de Oncologia de Lisboa Francisco Gentil, Lisbon, Portugal; Portuguese Gynecologic Oncology Section of the Portuguese Society of Gynecology. Electronic address:

Background: The incidence of gynecological cancers in premenopausal women is increasing, highlighting issues related to Hormonal Contraception (HC) and Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT). However, the presence of hormonal receptors in many gynecological cancers complicates HC and HRT prescriptions.

Objective: To identify barriers experienced by gynecologists in prescribing HC and HRT to gynecological cancer survivors, with a secondary objective of conducting a literature review on the safety of these prescriptions.
