Article Abstract

Introduction: Leiomyoma is a form of benign tumor originated in hypertrophy of the smooth muscles, which is most prevalent in the uterus and gastrointestinal tract. However, Leiomyoma originating from smooth muscle at the vessels lying on deep soft tissue is very rare.

Case Report: Our case was a rare case of leiomyoma originating from the axillary region, which was initially diagnosed as a fibroadenoma on radiological examination. The mass was separated from surrounding tissues and totally resected. Pathologically, hematoxylin-eosin-stained biopsy tissue showed the typical findings of leiomyoma. Postoperative follow-up observation was done for 1 year, without any complications or recurrence.

Conclusion: Notably, a leiomyoma in the axillary region is difficult to differentiate from other benign or malignant tumors on preoperative radiological examinations such as ultrasonography or computed tomgraphy. Therefore, when an indefinite asymptomatic mass that is not lymphadenopathy or common benign tumor is identified in the axillary region, leiomyoma can be considered as one of the differential diagnoses.

In the present study, we aimed to investigate intratumoral karyotype diversity as well as the estrogen/progesterone effect on the cytogenetic profile of uterine leiomyomas (ULs). A total of 15 UL samples obtained from 15 patients were cultured in the media supplemented with estrogen and/or progesterone and without adding hormones. Conventional cytogenetic analysis of culture samples revealed clonal chromosomal abnormalities in 11 out of 15 ULs.

Introduction And Importance: Female urethral leiomyoma is a rare benign tumor that originates from the smooth muscle cells in the urethra's wall. Surgical resection is often the primary treatment option. However, the tumor's location and size can present challenges for complete removal while preserving urethral function.

Uterine leiomyomas (uLMs) are the most prevalent benign tumors of the female reproductive system. MED12 is one of the mediator complex subunits that has been implicated in uLMs pathogenesis. Somatic mutations in exon2-MED12 have been found in ~ 70% of uLMs.

Leiomyoma with bizarre nuclei (LM-BN) is a rare variant of leiomyoma with a benign clinical course. In contrast, leiomyosarcoma (LMS) is a high-grade, malignant neoplasm characterized by high recurrence rates and poor survival. While LM-BN and LMS show distinct morphologies, they share similar immunoprofiles and molecular alterations, with both considered 'genomically unstable'.

Uterine artery projection relative to anatomical bony landmarks in CT-angiographies.

Surg Radiol Anat

December 2024

Radiology Department, Centre Hospitalier Lyon-Sud, Hospices Civils de Lyon, 165 Chemin du Grand Revoyet, Pierre Benite Cedex, 69495, France.

Purpose: The aim was to find bony landmarks of the pelvis for the origins and routes of uterine arteries, hoping to improve speed and safety of embolization procedures (leiomyoma, post-partum bleedings…).

Methods: We carried out a study based on the analysis of CT-angiographies in arterial phases of whole-body scans. Two measurements were done per artery, one from the origin of uterine arteries to a first perpendicular line passing through the lowest part of the sacroiliac joint, another one from the beginning of the parametrial segment from a second parallel line passing by the acetabular roof.
