Whether or not a species might reasonably be described without the preservation of a type specimen is a matter of ongoing discussion among taxonomists (Dubois & Nemésio 2007; Minteer et al. 2014; Krell & Wheeler 2014; Löbl et al. 2016; Marshall & Evenhuis 2016; Santos et al. 2016). Here, we attempt to make our own contribution to the topic.

The Promotion of Oral Nicotine Pouches for Non-Smoking Cessation Purposes on TikTok.

Introduction: Oral nicotine pouches (ONPs) are increasingly prevalent among young people and feature widely within social media content. This study systematically analyzes the most viewed videos on TikTok relating to ZYN (the most popular ONP, manufactured by a subsidiary of Philip Morris International) to understand their content sentiment and patterns, as well as the demographics and potential commercial biases of their creators.

Methods: We used an Apify scraper in July 2024 to collect URLs and metadata for the top 100 most viewed videos on TikTok under the #ZYN hashtag.

Flexible infrared image fiber bundles (FBs) are capable of delivering thermal images of areas that are difficult for ordinary thermal cameras to access while making the imaging systems compact and lightweight. Thus, FB-based thermal imaging systems show great potential in some important applications, such as infrared endoscopy, aircraft infrared warning, and satellite remote sensing. In most applications, FBs are required to have high overall transmittance (OT) and high spatial resolution (), but the fabrication of such high-performance FBs is still a challenge.

Passive Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, used to detect chemical pollutants in the air, works with extremely weak signals with complex and varying background interference. This significantly challenges gas identification in terms of precision. Consequently, limited research progress has been made in this area.

The practice of microtargeting in politics, involving tailoring persuasive messages to individuals based on personal vulnerabilities, has raised manipulation concerns. As microtargeting's persuasive benefits are well-established and its use facilitated by AI tools and personality-inference models, ethical and regulatory concerns are magnified. Here, we explore countering microtargeting effects by creating a warning signal deployed when users encounter personality-tailored political ads.
