The brain is composed of a dense and ramified vascular network of arteries, veins and capillaries of various sizes. One way to assess the risk of cerebrovascular pathologies is to use computational models to predict the physiological effects of reduced blood supply and correlate these responses with observations of brain damage. Therefore, it is crucial to establish a detailed 3D organization of the brain vasculature, which could be used to develop more accurate in silico models.

Toward efficient slide-level grading of liver biopsy via explainable deep learning framework.

Med Biol Eng Comput

January 2025

Pathology Department, Beijing Youan Hospital, Capital Medical University, Beijing, 100000, China.

In the context of chronic liver diseases, where variability in progression necessitates early and precise diagnosis, this study addresses the limitations of traditional histological analysis and the shortcomings of existing deep learning approaches. A novel patch-level classification model employing multi-scale feature extraction and fusion was developed to enhance the grading accuracy and interpretability of liver biopsies, analyzing 1322 cases across various staining methods. The study also introduces a slide-level aggregation framework, comparing different diagnostic models, to efficiently integrate local histological information.

Ciprofol, a novel γ-aminobutyric acid receptor agonist, outperforms propofol with minimal cardiovascular effects, higher potency, reduced injection pain, and a broader safety margin. Despite these advantages, ciprofol's clinical research is still emerging. This study compares the median effective dose (ED) and adverse reactions of ciprofol and propofol, in conjunction with sufentanil, for suppressing cardiovascular responses during tracheal intubation.

Primary Ciliary Dyskinesia (PCD) is a rare genetic disorder requiring airway clearance techniques for mucus removal. We aimed to evaluate the feasibility and the effect of the active cycle of breathing technique (ACBT) versus oscillating positive expiratory pressure therapy (OPEP) in improving lung function and functional exercise capacity among children with PCD in Palestine. 32 PCD children (6-18 years) were included in a 12-week home-based feasibility study.

Impact of pulmonary rehabilitation on survival in people with Interstitial lung disease.

Chest

January 2025

Respiratory Research@Alfred, Central Clinical School, Monash University, VIC, Australia; Institute for Breathing and Sleep, VIC, Australia; Department of Physiotherapy, Alfred Health, VIC, Australia.

Background: Pulmonary rehabilitation (PR) is a beneficial intervention for people with interstitial lung disease (ILD), however the effect of PR on survival is unclear. This study compared the survival outcomes in people with ILD who were allocated to PR versus those who were allocated to control in two published randomised controlled trials (RCTs).

Research Question: Does participation in PR impact survival among people with ILD?

Study Design And Methods: The combined data from the two previous RCTs of PR in ILD were included.
