Objective: The Abbott RealTime MTB assay, launched in June 2014, has been shown to have a competitive performance in the detection of the Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB) complex in respiratory specimens. The present study was conducted to investigate the usefulness of the Abbott MTB Realtime assay in the detection of MTB in formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded (FFPE) tissues.
Methods: A total of 96 FFPE specimens obtained from microbiologically proven MTB cases (N=60) and nontuberculous Mycobacterium cases (N=36) were analyzed. The performance of the Abbott MTB Realtime assay was compared with that of the Roche Cobas TaqMan MTB assay.
Results: The overall sensitivity and specificity of the Abbott assay were 63.3% and 97.2%, respectively, compared with 11.7% and 100% for the Cobas assay. The detection rate of the Abbott assay was much higher among 37 acid-fast-positive specimens than among 23 acid-fast-negative specimens (89.3% versus 21.7%, respectively). The detection rate of the assay was higher among 29 resection specimens than among 31 small biopsy specimens (86.2% versus 41.9%, respectively).
Conclusion: Our results suggest that the Abbott RealTime MTB assay can be used to differentiate MTB from nontuberculous mycobacterial infections in acid-fast-positive FFPE tissues.

Objectives: BK virus (BKV) is highly seroprevalent in humans. After primary infection, it remains latent in the urinary tract and can reactivate in immunocompromised individuals, leading to interstitial nephropathy or hemorrhagic cystitis. The BKV viral load (VL) in plasma correlates with the occurrence of nephropathy and can be monitored in kidney graft recipients; the early detection of BKV viremia can enable an early reduction of immunosuppressant drug doses and the prevention of BKV-associated nephropathy.

Objective: Thrombocytopenia is a common complication of hematopoietic stem-cell transplantation (HSCT), though many patients will become immune refractory to platelet transfusions over time. We built and evaluated an electronic health record (EHR)-integrated, standards-based application that enables blood-bank clinicians to match platelet inventory with patients using data previously not available at the point-of-care, like human leukocyte antigen (HLA) data for donors and recipients.
Materials And Methods: The web-based application launches as an EHR-embedded application or as a standalone application.

Introduction: This analysis aimed to investigate diabetes-specific psychological outcomes among adults with type 1 diabetes (T1D) using hybrid closed-loop (HCL) versus standard therapy.
Research Design And Methods: In this multicenter, open-label, randomized, controlled, parallel-group clinical trial, adults with T1D were allocated to 26 weeks of HCL (MiniMed™ 670G) or standard therapy (insulin pump or multiple daily injections without real-time continuous glucose monitoring). Psychological outcomes (awareness and fear of hypoglycemia; and diabetes-specific positive well-being, diabetes distress, diabetes treatment satisfaction, and diabetes-specific quality of life (QoL)) were measured at enrollment, mid-trial and end-trial.

Background: Perioperative right ventricular (RV) dysfunction is associated with increased morbidity and mortality in cardiac surgery patients. This study aimed to demonstrate proof of concept in generating intraoperative RV pressure-volume (PV) loops and conducting an end-systolic PV relationship (ESPVR) analysis using data obtained from routinely used intraoperative monitors.
Methods: Adult patients undergoing cardiac surgery with the placement of a pulmonary artery catheter (PAC) between May 2023 and March 2024 were included prospectively.
