Two cases of hypoxemia and pulmonary hyperperfusion due to large bronchial collateral arteries after total repair of simple transposition of the great arteries (TGA) are presented. Pulmonary hyperperfusion was not present before total repair. Hypoxemia and congestive heart failure quickly abated after surgical ligation of these enlarged bronchial collateral arteries. The patients were totally corrected quite late (at 21 and 22 months respectively) by current standards. It is suggested that: (1) large bronchial collaterals may develop in patients with simple TGA especially if total correction is delayed; (2) preoperative angiographic evaluation of patients with simple TGA who come in for total correction late, should include special aortic root injection to exclude the presence of bronchial collaterals; (3) hypoxemia and pulmonary congestion after total correction of TGA by atrial switch procedure (Mustard or Senning) may in fact be due to bronchial collaterals and not obstruction of the pulmonary veins.

Background: Patient safety is important in daily anesthesia practices, and providing deep anesthesia is difficult. Current debates on the optimal anesthetic agents highlight the need for safer alternatives. This study was justified by the need for safer and more effective anesthetic protocols for outpatient hysteroscopic procedures, particularly those conducted outside the operating room.

The inflammatory response of lung tissue and abnormal proliferation of pulmonary artery smooth muscle cells are involved in the pathogenesis of high-altitude pulmonary hypertension (HAPH). Halofuginone (HF), an active ingredient derivative of Chang Shan (Dichroa febrifuga Lour. [Hydrangeaceae]), has antiproliferative, antihypertrophic, antifibrotic, and other effects, but its protective effects on HAPH remains unclear.

Death from mechanical asphyxia (DMA) refers to death from acute respiratory disorder caused by mechanical violence. Due to the absence of characteristic signs in corpses, it has been rather challenging to achieve the precise authentication of DMA. In this research, human pulmonary samples were collected and grouped according to different causes of death in search of potential biomarkers of DMA.

Hepatopulmonary syndrome (HPS) and portopulmonary hypertension (POPH) are two distinct pulmonary vascular complications seen in patients with liver disease and/or portal hypertension. HPS is characterized by disturbed gas exchange and hypoxemia because of intrapulmonary vascular dilatations. POPH is defined by pulmonary arterial hypertension, which might lead to right heart failure.

Diagnosing ILD-PH is challenging due to the limitations of imaging methods. Right heart catheterization (RHC) is the gold standard for diagnosing PH but is limited to ILD patients considered for lung transplantation.
