Background: The aim of this study was to evaluate the association between urbanization of residential area, parent education level, employment status, overweight/obesity, physical activity, and exposure to environmental tobacco smoke (ETS), in a sample of healthy Italian school-age children (5-11 years).

Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted on 432 children resident, respectively, in a highly urban and in a rural area (Latium Region) in 2014. Information on children and families were obtained via questionnaire.

Results: One-third of children were overweight or obese, 15% did not participate in any sport outside school, and more than one-third were exposed to ETS in the domestic environment. Living in a rural area (adjusted OR, 2.55; 95%CI: 1.18-5.52) and lower maternal education (adjusted OR, 2.32; 95%CI: 1.03-5.27) were significant predictors of overweight/obese status. Moreover, lower maternal education level (adjusted OR, 2.74; 95%CI: 1.40-5.33) and paternal education level (adjusted OR, 3.06; 95%CI: 1.54-6.07) were significant predictors of ETS exposure.

Conclusions: It is essential to investigate the reasons underlying the higher frequency of overweight/obesity in children living in rural environments compared with those in urban areas; and preventative actions should be designed to be easily understood by those with lower education levels.

Neighborhoods or residential environments have physical and social attributes which may contribute to inequalities in the overweight and obesity pandemic. We examined the longitudinal associations of baseline neighborhood-level income and racial residential segregation (using the Gi* statistic: low, medium, high) with changes in body mass index (BMI in kg/m), using geocoded data from 1821 civil servants in the municipality of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, followed-up for approximately 13 years (baseline wave 1: 1999, wave 2: 2001-2002, wave 3: 2006-2007, wave 4: 2012-2013). Linear mixed effects models using BMI measured in all four study waves were performed, accounting for gender, race, length of residence, education and time-dependent age, and per capita family income.

The aims of this study were to develop a questionnaire on peripheral intravenous catheter (PIVC) maintenance, evaluate its content validity, and assess factors influencing the level of knowledge of nursing professionals regarding best practices.The study was conducted in 3 stages: (1) development of a questionnaire on PIVC maintenance; (2) content validity assessment by experts with assessment of comprehensiveness, relevance, and clarity; and (3) application of the questionnaire to 1493 nursing professionals. Neointimal coverage and stent apposition, as assessed from intravascular optical coherence tomography (IVOCT) images, are crucial for optimizing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). Existing state-of-the-art computer algorithms designed to automate this analysis often treat lumen and stent segmentations as separate target entities, applicable only to a single stent type and overlook automation of preselecting which pullback segments need segmentation, thus limit their practicality. This study aimed for an algorithm capable of intelligently handling the entire IVOCT pullback across different phases of PCI and clinical scenarios, including the presence and coexistence of metal and bioresorbable vascular scaffold (BVS), stent types.
