Background: To date studies on the relation between mode of delivery and atopic diseases in are controversial.

Objective: The aim of the study was to determine a possible relationship between mode of delivery and risk of atopic phenotypes and, to assess the critical role of some pre-and post-natal parameters as a link between mode of delivery and risk of atopy.

Methods: 1516 children were assessed by skin prick tests, serum total and specific IgE levels. Parental reports on demographic and clinical data were also recorded.

Results: Of the 1516 children enrolled for the study, clinical and laboratory informations were obtained from 917 children. 460 children of them were born via CD and 457 via VD. Mode of delivery did not modify the prevalence of immune sensitization and/or allergic diseases. However, CD was associated with increased risk of atopy (p<0.001). Moreover, some parameters such as familiar history of atopy (p<0.001), habits smoking (p<0.05), exclusive artificial feeding (p<0.001); and breast-feeding time (<3months) (p<0.001) were associated with a major risk of atopy in CD group. Additionally, although our study confirmed that breast-feeding is associated to lower serum total IgE levels than artificial-feeding (p<0.001), it seems that the protective role of breast-feeding is negatively influenced from CD. Also in artificial-feeding subjects CD is related to a significant higher levels of IgE than VD (p<0.001).

Conclusions: Our findings suggest that CD influences only the risk of atopy but no prevalence of immune sensitization and allergic diseases.

Background: As induction of labor increases in the United States, safe, effective outpatient cervical ripening has been explored as a method to decrease the inpatient time burden. The most effective method of outpatient mechanical cervical ripening remains unclear.

Objective: To evaluate if Dilapan-S is non-inferior to cervical balloon for outpatient cervical ripening (CR) based on change in Bishop score.

Premature and low birth weight neonates often struggle with oral intake due to immaturity or respiratory distress. Forkhead box protein 2 gene () is predicted to influence oral feeding ability in newborns, but studies assessing the role of this gene in influencing oral feeding ability are limited. The aim of this study was to investigate the role of gene polymorphism, particularly single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) rs17137124, on the duration of orogastric tube (OGT) use in moderate to late preterm neonates.

Background: Extended-duration exposure therapy, in which treatment is delivered over a single prolonged session or cluster of long-duration sessions, is a highly efficacious and efficient treatment for anxiety disorders such as specific phobias. Despite this, little is known about the use of extended-duration exposure therapy in clinical practice.

Methods: In the present study we investigated the perceptions and use of extended-duration exposure therapy amongst a sample of Australian psychologists via a survey, and the Therapist Beliefs about Exposure Scale.

January 2025

Department of Radiation Oncology, National Cancer Center/National Clinical Research Center for Cancer/Cancer Hospital, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and Peking Union Medical College, Beijing, 100021, China.

Background And Purpose: Treatment record contains most of information related to treatment plan delivery in radiation therapy. Reviewing treatment record is an important quality assurance (QA) task for safety and quality of patient treatments. This task is usually performed by senior medical physicists.

Aims: Ultrasound is used in the delivery room to assess fetal head position, engagement during labor, and anal sphincter injuries in the immediate postpartum period. The transperineal approach allows for direct visualization of the structures of interest without altering anatomical landmarks. Various ultrasound measurements during labor have been described in the literature, and their use varies widely across maternity units.
