Background And Objectives: It is unclear whether the quantitative width of the surgical margin influences outcomes in patients with extremity and truncal soft tissue sarcoma (STS) treated with radiotherapy (RT).

Methods: We performed a retrospective review of 382 patients with localized extremity or truncal STS who underwent limb-sparing surgery and RT from 1983 to 2010, and we analyzed the significance of resection margin status and quantitative margin width on outcomes.

Results: Surgical margins were positive in 68 (18%) patients and negative in 314 (82%) patients. For those patients with a reported quantitative margin width (n = 235), the width of the negative margin was ≤1 mm (n = 128), >1 mm and ≤5 mm (n = 79), and >5 mm (n = 28). At a median follow-up of 82 months, the local recurrence rates were 5.4% and 11.8% for margin-negative and margin-positive patients, respectively. There were no differences in the rates of local or distant recurrence nor of any survival outcome based on the quantitative width of the surgical margin, provided that it was negative.

Conclusions: In patients undergoing RT and limb-sparing surgery for STS, achieving a negative margin is essential for optimizing both local control and survival. However, the absolute quantitative width of the negative margin does not significantly influence outcome, and so attempts at wide margins of resection appear to be unnecessary. Importantly, the conclusions drawn from this study must not be applied to those patients undergoing surgery alone as the local treatment of their STS, in which case wider margins of resection may be necessary.

Implications For Practice: In patients undergoing radiation therapy and limb-sparing surgery for soft tissue sarcoma, the quantitative width of the negative margin does not influence outcome, and so attempts at wide margins of resection appear to be unnecessary, especially when such attempts compromise the functional outcome. Importantly, the conclusions drawn from this study must not be applied to those patients undergoing surgery alone as the local treatment of their soft tissue sarcoma, in which case wider margins of resection may be necessary.

Introduction: Blunt brachial artery injuries (BAI) require reconstruction with an extensive vein graft due to the wide area of arterial damage. In the upper arm, safe options for pedicle flaps are limited, and selecting recipient vessels for free-flap surgery is challenging, complicating the treatment of soft tissue injuries associated with blunt BAI. This study aimed to analyze the characteristics and soft tissue reconstruction of blunt BAI and propose treatment strategies for treating associated soft tissue injuries.

This retrospective cohort study examined the association between radiotherapy and prognosis in follicular lymphoma (FL) patients, with stratification by age, Ann Arbor stage, primary tumor site, surgical status, and grade. Using data from the SEER database, we employed Cox proportional hazards and competing risk models to assess the impact of radiotherapy on overall survival (OS) and cancer-specific survival (CSS) in 7,551 FL patients. The association between radiotherapy and second primary cancer (SPC) was explored using Logistic regression model.

Tibial plateau fracture is a fracture involving the proximal articular surface of the tibia, and its injury mechanism is complex, the fracture morphology is different, and it is often accompanied by different degrees of soft tissue injury, which is difficult to diagnose and treat. In recent years, the research hotspot has focused on solving the reduction and fixation of the posterior lateral column of the tibial plateau, because it has been clinically found that the residual sagittal plane after tibial plateau fracture is insufficient reduction or loss of reduction leads to knee joint dysfunction. The posterior inclination angle of the tibial plateau is an important parameter to describe the sagittal alignment of the tibia.

Objective: To analyze the clinical efficacy and safety of microsurgery in patients with Gustilo ⅢC open fractures.

Methods: A total of 64 patients with Gustilo ⅢC open fractures who were admitted to the hospital bewteen September 2018 and March 2022 were included, and divided into the observation group and the control group, with 32 cases in each one. In the observation group, there were 24 males and 8 females, aged from 29 to 42 years with an average of (36.

Insufficient keratinized mucosa is a common clinical problem. Although there is no consistent data on the long-term success of implant restorations relative to the presence or absence of peri-implant keratinized mucosa, it is widely accepted that the presence of keratinized mucosa width<2 mm is associated with increased biofilm accumulation, soft-tissue inflammation, and mucosal recession. Free gingival graft (FGG) is the standard surgical intervention for augmenting the width of keratinized gingiva.
