Background: Hypertriglyceridemia-associated acute pancreatitis is a disease lacking a standardized management approach.
Objective: The main objective of this study was to evaluate the safety and efficacy of a continuous intravenous insulin infusion order set specifically designed for managing hypertriglyceridemia.
Methods: This study compared the safety and efficacy of a standardized (postintervention) approach to managing hypertriglyceridemia to a nonstandardized (preintervention) approach.

Introduction: Most patients admitted to hospital recover with treatments that can be administered on the general ward. A small but important group deteriorate however and require augmented organ support in areas with increased nursing to patient ratios. In observational studies evaluating this cohort, proxy outcomes such as unplanned intensive care unit admission, cardiac arrest and death are used.

Background: Recent efforts by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education to standardize resident education and demonstrate objective clinical proficiency have led toward more accurate documentation of resident competencies. Particularly with regard to bedside procedures, hospitals are now requiring certification of competency before allowing a provider to perform them independently. The current system at our institution uses a time-consuming, online verification system.

Despite this, difficulties exist in the provision of quality information aimed at describing nursing work in sufficient detail. The Irish Minimum Data Set for General Nursing is a new nursing data collection system aimed at highlighting the contribution of nursing to patient care.
