Ocular Hypertropia Mimicking Inferior Rectus Palsy as an Atypical Presentation of Parameningeal Rhabdomyosarcoma in a Child.

Int Med Case Rep J

January 2025

Department of Pediatric Ophthalmology, Prince Sultan Military Medical City, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Introduction: Rhabdomyosarcoma (RMS) originates from undifferentiated mesenchymal cells that give rise to striated muscles. The symptoms of para-meningeal RMS often resemble those of allergic rhinosinusitis, including nasal congestion, mucus discharge, headache, and occasional nosebleeds. We report a child with atypical clinical presentation of ocular hypertropia secondary to para-meningeal RMS.

Der p1 is one of the major allergens causing house dust mite (HDM) allergy. Pathological Der p1-specific B cells play a key role in allergic inflammation as producers of allergen-specific antibodies. Crosslinking the inhibitory FcγRIIb with the B cell receptor triggers a high-affinity suppressive signal in B cells.

Aberrant immune responses to viral pathogens contribute to pathogenesis, but our understanding of pathological immune responses caused by viruses within the human virome, especially at a population scale, remains limited. We analyzed whole-genome sequencing datasets of 6,321 Japanese individuals, including patients with autoimmune diseases (psoriasis vulgaris, rheumatoid arthritis (RA), systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), pulmonary alveolar proteinosis (PAP) or multiple sclerosis) and coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), or healthy controls. We systematically quantified two constituents of the blood DNA virome, endogenous HHV-6 (eHHV-6) and anellovirus.

Eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis (EGPA) is a systemic vasculitis preceded by bronchial asthma or allergic sinusitis and accompanied by peripheral blood eosinophilia. Immunosuppressive drugs, such as cyclophosphamide in addition to high-dose glucocorticoids, are recommended for induction of remission in patients with severe EGPA. Although mepolizumab is widely recognized as remission induction therapy in non-fatal/non-organ disabling or relapsed/refractory EGPA, its efficacy and safety in induction of remission for severe cases have been ambiguous.

Ethnopharmacological Relevance: Chronic asthma caused by allergies is a lung illness marked by airway remodeling and hyperresponsiveness. Guben Kechuan (GK) granule is a clinically proven formula for treating lung disease. It relieves cough and helps to clear phlegm, but the mechanisms underlying its treatment for asthma are not clear.
