Two members of the genus Ipomovirus (family Potyviridae) are known to infect cucurbits: cucumber vein yellowing virus (CVYV), which is emerging throughout the Mediterranean Basin, and squash vein yellowing virus (SqVYV), which has been described in America and the Caribbean Basin, and more recently in Israel. In this work, an ipomovirus different from CVYV and SqVYV, tentatively named coccinia mottle virus (CocMoV), was detected in a sample of the cucurbit Coccinia grandis collected in central Sudan in 2012. Sequence identity in nt was 68 % with CVYV, 59-60 % with SqVYV, cassava brown streak virus and Ugandan cassava brown streak virus, and less than 50 % with other members of the family Potyviridae. Preliminary biological and epidemiological studies indicate that CocMoV has a narrow natural host range and a low prevalence.

Potato virus Y (PVY, genus Potyvirus, family Potyviridae) is one of the most devastating and economically important potato pathogens. Members of the Potyviridae family demonstrate high recombination rates. In nature, 5 major parental variants of PVY were identified with at least 35 recombinants.

VNPs are arousing great attention due to potential biotechnological applications in fields like nanomedicine and nanotechnology because they allow the presentation of polypeptides of choice linked to the virus structural proteins. Starting from tobacco etch virus (TEV), a plant plus-strand RNA virus that belongs to the genus (family ), here we describe the development of recombinant hybrid VNPs in plants able of exposing simultaneously different proteins on their surface.

Using a high-throughput sequencing (HTS) approach, we report the discovery of a new poacevirus (family Potyviridae) in symptomatic wild oat (Avena fatua L.) plants collected near Bordeaux, France, in June 2023. A nearly complete genome sequence of 10,292 nucleotides (nt) was obtained.

Plant viruses of the families Potyviridae and Secoviridae encode 3C-like proteases (3CL) that are related to picornavirus 3C proteases. This review discusses recent advances in deciphering the multifunctional activities of plant virus 3CL. These proteases regulate viral polyprotein processing and facilitate virus replication.

A novel macluravirus, tentatively named "tsaoko stripe mosaic virus" (TkSMV), was identified in Amomum tsaoko through high-throughput sequencing. The complete genome sequence of TkSMV was determined using RT-PCR and RACE. The genome sequence consists of 8218 nucleotides, excluding the poly(A) tail, and contains a large open reading frame encoding a polyprotein of 2625 amino acids with a molecular weight of approximately 297.
