Background: Serum thromboxane B (sTXB) is a validated biomarker of low-dose aspirin pharmacodynamics. In the original method, nonanticoagulated blood samples must be incubated at 37 °C immediately after withdrawal, centrifuged and serum supernatant should be frozen until assayed. Timely completion of all preanalytical steps may affect the feasibility and quality of sTXB measurements.

Faculty of Chemistry and Biochemistry, Ruhr-University Bochum, Universitätsstrasse 150, 44780, Bochum, Germany.

Primary human neutrophils are the most abundant human white blood cells and are central for innate immunity. They act as early responders at inflammation sites, guided by chemotactic gradients to find infection or inflammation sites. Neutrophils can undergo both apoptosis as well as NETosis.

Article Synopsis
  • * An 80-year-old woman with cardiac arrest due to a pulmonary embolism was treated successfully using venoarterial ECMO, which stabilized her condition and allowed for the management of subsequent liver and IVC injuries without surgery.
  • * The research indicates that increasing ECMO flow can effectively control bleeding from IVC injuries, suggesting a promising new approach for treating these severe injuries based on both patient outcomes and validation in a dog model.

To explore the value of ultrasound in volume assessment during the perioperative period of single-shot spinal anesthesia for total hip arthroplasty. A total of 100 patients undergoing elective surgery under spinal anesthesia at our hospital from January 2022 to January 2024 were selected. Transthoracic echocardiography was used to measure the diameter of the abdominal aorta (Ao) before anesthesia (T1), 10 minutes after anesthesia (T2), and 30 minutes after anesthesia (T3).

Porencephaly is an uncommon neurological condition characterized by cystic cavities or holes in the cerebral hemispheres of the brain filled with cerebrospinal fluid. There are two types of porencephaly: acquired porencephaly, also known as pseudo-porencephaly, and congenital porencephaly, also known as true porencephaly. Acquired porencephaly, also known as encephaloclastic porencephaly, typically results from late prenatal or perinatal vascular lesions caused by arterial ischemic stroke or venous thrombosis.
