We report the electronic spectrum of the prototypical ruthenium coordination complex Ru(bpy)3 (2+) (bpy = 2, 2'-bipyridine) by messenger tagging with N2 in a cryogenic ion trap and photodissociation spectroscopy of mass selected Ru(bpy)3 (2+) ⋅ N2 ions. We observe individual electronic bands and groups of bands with unprecedented detail, particularly in the usually unresolved metal-to-ligand charge transfer region of the spectrum. By comparing our experimental results with time-dependent density functional theory, both with and without spin-orbit interaction [Heully et al., J. Chem. Phys. 131, 184308 (2009)], we are able to assign the spectrum of the isolated ion.

Broadband CARS is a coherent Raman scattering technique that provides access to the full biological vibrational spectrum within milliseconds, facilitating the recording of widefield hyperspectral Raman images. In this work, BCARS hyperspectral images of unstained cells from two different cell lines of immune lineage (T cell [Jurkat] and pDCs [CAL-1]) were recorded and analyzed using multivariate statistical algorithms in order to determine the spectral differences between the cells. A classifier was trained which could distinguish the known cells with a 97% out-of-bag accuracy.

Introduction: Acute kidney injury (AKI) in patients with acute-on-chronic liver failure (ACLF) is driven by the severity of systemic inflammation, acute portal hypertension driving circulatory dysfunction, hyperbilirubinemia, and toxicity of bile acids. The spectrum is mostly structural, associated with reduced response to vasoconstrictors. The progression is rapid and need of renal replacement therapy and extracorporeal therapies may be required for the management.

Photothermal disinfection (PTD) offers promising potential for water purification due to its sustainable and broad-spectrum bactericidal properties, although it is hindered by slow charge separation in photosensitizers. Herein, we present a plasma-mediated PTD technique utilizing an efficient localized heating effect induced by incident light at specific wavelengths for rapid bacterial inactivation. A metallic CuS photosensitizer, derived from electronic waste through a biomimetic transmembrane confined-assembled strategy, facilitates collective and coherent oscillation of free electrons around Cu atoms in the near-infrared range.

Sphingolipids (SL) are crucial components of cellular membranes and play pivotal roles in various biological processes, including cell growth, differentiation, apoptosis, and stress responses. All SL contain a sphingoid base (SPB) backbone which is the shared and class-defining element. SPBs are heterogeneous in length and structure.
