Acai has been used by the population due to its high nutritional value and its benefits to health, such as its antioxidant properties. The aim of this study was to evaluate the protective effect of acai frozen pulp on oxidative stress parameters in cerebral cortex, hippocampus and cerebellum of Wistar rats treated with carbon tetrachloride (CCl). Thirty male Wistar rats (90-day-old) were orally treated with water or acai frozen pulp for 14 days (7 μL/g). On the 15th day, half of the animals received treatment with mineral oil and the other half with CCl (3.0 mL/kg). The cerebral cortex, hippocampus and cerebellum were dissected and used for analysis of creatine kinase activity (CK), thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS), carbonyl, sulfhydryl, and the activity of antioxidant enzymes catalase (CAT) and superoxide dismutase (SOD). Statistical analysis was performed by ANOVA followed by Tukey's post-test. CCl was able to inhibit CK activity in all tissues tested and to provoke lipid damage in cerebral cortex and cerebellum, and protein damage in the three tissues tested. CCl enhanced CAT activity in the cerebral cortex, and inhibited CAT activity in the hippocampus and cerebellum and reduced SOD activity in all tissues studied. Acai frozen pulp prevented the inhibition of CK, TBARS, carbonyl and CAT activity in all brain structures and only in hippocampus for SOD activity. Therefore, acai frozen pulp has antioxidant properties and maybe could be useful in the treatment of some diseases that affect the central nervous system that are associated with oxidative damage.

Does temperature abuse during storage, distribution, marketing, and consumption of unpasteurized frozen açaí pulp increase microbial hazards? This study investigated the behavior of potentially pathogenic ( spp.) and spoilage (mesophilic bacteria, yeasts and molds) microorganisms in two simulated thawing conditions: under refrigeration and at room temperature. The effect of repeated cold chain abuse was observed by thawing and refreezing (-20°C) açaí pulp four times over a period of 90 days.

The COVID-19 pandemic had a great impact on the mortality of older adults and, chronic non- transmissible diseases (CNTDs) patients, likely previous inflammaging condition that is common in these subjects. It is possible that functional foods could attenuate viral infection conditions such as SARS-CoV-2 (severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2), the causal agent of COVID-19 pandemic. Previous evidence suggested that some fruits consumed by Amazonian Diet from Pre-Colombian times could present relevant proprieties to decrease of COVID-19 complications such as oxidative-cytokine storm.

This study was realized to determine the effects of whey protein isolate (5% w/v) based edible coatings (WPC) containing different concentrations (3, 6, 9% w/v) of acai powder extract (AE) and matcha extract (ME) on oxidative and microbial stability of cooked meatballs during storage (14 d at +4 °C or 60 d at -18 °C). Background: Semen freezing is of great importance for animal production because it allows the use and the rapid diffusion of the genetic material from economically important animals.
Objective: To evaluate the effect of açai (Euterpe oleracea; Arecaceae family) extract addition to the semen cryopreservation diluent on the morphology, sperm motility parameters, and plasma membrane integrity of spermatozoa.
Materials And Methods: The ejaculates, obtained from five bulls with low performance on semen freezing, were fractionated and distributed according to the experimental group.
