One-parameter class of uncertainty relations based on entropy power.

Published: June 2016

We use the concept of entropy power to derive a one-parameter class of information-theoretic uncertainty relations for pairs of conjugate observables in an infinite-dimensional Hilbert space. This class constitutes an infinite tower of higher-order statistics uncertainty relations, which allows one in principle to determine the shape of the underlying information-distribution function by measuring the relevant entropy powers. We illustrate the capability of this class by discussing two examples: superpositions of vacuum and squeezed states and the Cauchy-type heavy-tailed wave function.

Background: Direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) can interfere with coagulation analyses, causing erroneous results such as false-positive lupus anticoagulant and false-normal antithrombin, threatening patient safety when overlooked. A test using a prothrombin time quotient method to detect DOAC presence in plasma samples is now commercially available, the MRX PT DOAC, with the result expressed as Clot Time Ratio (CTR).

Objectives: Evaluate the ability of MRX PT DOAC to identify interfering apixaban or rivaroxaban concentrations, identify non-interfering or interfering patient samples, and detect whether a patient is on DOAC treatment.

Distraction is ubiquitous in human environments. Distracting input is often predictable, but we do not understand when or how humans can exploit this predictability. Here, we ask whether predictable distractors are able to reduce uncertainty in updating the internal predictive model.

Introduction: Pregnant women's experiences and concerns regarding childbirth are complex, necessitating a multidimensional and personalized approach in maternal care. This study explores the psychological and emotional factors influencing pregnant women's decisions regarding their mode of delivery. The results will provide valuable insights for the development of educational and counseling strategies designed to support pregnant women in making informed and conscious decisions about their childbirth.

A Canadian Perspective on Systemic Therapy for Recurrent or Metastatic Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma.

Curr Oncol

Department of Medical Oncology, Arthur JE Child Comprehensive Centre, Cumming School of Medicine, University of Calgary, Calgary, AB T2N 5G2, Canada.

Although the majority of patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) present with early-stage or locoregional disease that can be treated with definitive radiotherapy, approximately 20% of patients experience disease recurrence, and 15% present with metastatic disease that is not amenable to curative therapy. Management of patients with recurrent or metastatic (r/m) NPC who are not candidates for local salvage therapy is challenging in Canada, as there is uncertainty in extrapolating evidence that is largely generated from Southeast China to non-endemic regions such as Canada. Currently, treatment options in Canada are limited to chemotherapy regimens that can only achieve short-term response and prolongation of survival.
