A recent Wall Street Journal investigation revealed that TikTok floods child and adolescent users with videos of rapid weight loss methods, including tips on how to consume less than 300 calories a day and promoting a "corpse bride diet," showing emaciated girls with protruding bones. The investigation involved the creation of a dozen automated accounts registered as 13-year-olds and revealed that TikTok algorithms fed adolescents tens of thousands of weight-loss videos within just a few weeks of joining the platform. Emerging research indicates that these practices extend well beyond TikTok to other social media platforms that engage millions of U.

The zinc dendrite growth generally relies upon a "positive-feedback" mode, where the fast-grown tips receive higher current densities and ion fluxes. In this study, a self-limiting polyacrylamide (PAM) hydrogel that presents negative feedback to dendrite growth is developed. The monomers are purposefully polymerized at the dendrite tips, then the hydrogel reduces the local current density and ion flux by limiting zinc ion diffusion with abundant functional groups.

Bispecific T cell engagers (bsTCEs) have emerged as a promising class of cancer immunotherapy. Several bsTCEs have achieved marketing approval; dozens more are under clinical investigation. However, the clinical development of bsTCEs remains rife with challenges, including nuanced pharmacology, limited translatability of preclinical findings, frequent on-target toxicity, and convoluted dosing regimens.

Bronchiectasis is the third most common chronic inflammatory airway disease, after chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and asthma with a prevalence clearly underestimated probably because of its clinical similitudes with other chronic airway diseases. Bronchiectasis can be caused by a dozen of pulmonary and extra-pulmonary diseases and a variable number and severity of exacerbations can appear throughout its natural history, usually with an infectious profile. The dilation of the airway and the inflammation/infection is their radiological and pathophysiological hallmarks.

BAIAP2L2 Inactivation Does Not Affect Stereocilia Development or Maintenance in Vestibular Hair Cells.

Front Mol Neurosci

February 2022

Shandong Provincial Key Laboratory of Animal Cell and Developmental Biology, School of Life Sciences, Shandong University, Qingdao, China.

Hair cells are mechanosensitive cells in the inner ear, characterized by dozens to hundreds of actin-based stereocilia and one tubulin-based kinocilium on the apical surface of each cell. Two types of hair cells, namely cochlear hair cells and vestibular hair cells (VHCs), are responsible for the sensation of sound and balancing information, respectively. In each hair cell, the stereocilia are organized into rows of increasing heights with the mechano-electrical transduction (MET) channels localized at the tips of shorter-row stereocilia.
