bacteremia is a rare clinical entity described in only five case reports. Difficulties in the identification and intrinsic multidrug resistance (MDR) of the organism make diagnosis and treatment challenging. We present a case of  bacteremia which highlights the diagnostic and treatment challenges posed by this organism.

Succession of lignocellulolytic bacterial consortia bred anaerobically from lake sediment.

Microb Biotechnol

March 2016

Department of Microbial Ecology, Groningen Institute for Evolutionary Life Sciences, University of Groningen, Groningen, The Netherlands.

Anaerobic bacteria degrade lignocellulose in various anoxic and organically rich environments, often in a syntrophic process. Anaerobic enrichments of bacterial communities on a recalcitrant lignocellulose source were studied combining polymerase chain reaction-denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis, amplicon sequencing of the 16S rRNA gene and culturing. Three consortia were constructed using the microbiota of lake sediment as the starting inoculum and untreated switchgrass (Panicum virgatum) (acid or heat) or treated (with either acid or heat) as the sole source of carbonaceous compounds.

Dysgonomonas alginatilytica sp. nov., an alginate-degrading bacterium isolated from a microbial consortium.

Int J Syst Evol Microbiol

October 2015

Department of Molecular Biotechnology, Graduate School of Advanced Sciences of Matter, Hiroshima University, 1-3-1 Kagamiyama, Higashi-Hiroshima, Hiroshima 739-8530, Japan.

Gram-stain-negative, facultatively anaerobic, non-motile, non-spore-forming, rod-shaped bacterium, designated strain HUA-2T, was isolated from an alginate-degrading microbial consortium. Strain HUA-2T was related to Dysgonomonas capnocytophagoides JCM 16697T, Dysgonomonas macrotermitis JCM 19375T and Dysgonomonas mossii CCUG 43457T with 95.1 %, 94.
