Aim: The present study is part of a prospective micro-longitudinal research project and reports on the association between SLC6A4 methylation and socio-emotional stress response in very preterm (VPT) and full-term (FT) infants.

Materials & Methods: SLC6A4 methylation was assessed at birth and discharge in 32 VPT infants, and at birth in 27 FT infants. Socio-emotional stress response (i.e., negative emotionality) was assessed at 3 months (corrected age).

Results: Negative emotionality was higher in VPTs compared with FT counterpart. In VPT infants only, stress response was associated with SLC6A4 methylation status at discharge, which was predictive of greater negative emotionality.

Conclusion: The present study extends previous reports, suggesting that altered SLC6A4 methylation associates with greater socio-emotional stress sensitivity in 3-month-old VPT infants.

Exposure to Perinatal Trauma Modifies Nociception and Gene Expression in the Prefrontal Cortex and Hypothalamus of Adolescent Rats.

J Pain

Department of Neuroscience, School of Translational Medicine, Monash University, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. Electronic address:

The perinatal period encompasses a critical window for neurodevelopment that renders the brain highly responsive to experience. Trauma, such as intimate partner violence (IPV) and early life stress/neglect, during this period negatively affects physical and mental health outcomes, including increasing ones risk for chronic pain. Although epigenetic programming likely contributes, the mechanisms that drive the relationship between perinatal trauma and adverse health outcomes, are not fully understood.

Introduction: The development of stress-related psychopathologies, often associated with socio-emotional dysfunctions, is crucially determined by genetic and environmental factors, which shape the individual vulnerability or resilience to stress. Especially early adolescence is considered a vulnerable time for the development of psychopathologies. Various mouse strains are known to age-dependently differ in social, emotional, and endocrine stress responses based on genetic and epigenetic differences.

Musicality and social cognition in dementia: clinical and anatomical associations.

Brain Commun

December 2024

Department of Neurology, Alzheimer Center Amsterdam, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, Amsterdam UMC Location VUmc, 1081 HZ Amsterdam, The Netherlands.

Human musicality might have co-evolved with social cognition abilities, but common neuroanatomical substrates remain largely unclear. In behavioural variant frontotemporal dementia, social cognitive abilities are profoundly impaired, whereas these are typically spared in Alzheimer's disease. If musicality indeed shares a neuroanatomical basis with social cognition, it could be hypothesized that clinical and neuroanatomical associations of musicality and social cognition should differ between these causes of dementia.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to develop a fuzzy prediction model that could help in determining the musculoskeletal risk involved in the occupation of hand-made carpet weaving.

Methods: A questionnaire-based study involving 193 carpet weavers in Jammu and Kashmir was conducted. The questionnaire collected information on demographics, psychosocial factors, workplace fatigue, and musculoskeletal complaints.
