AI Article Synopsis

Article Abstract

Background: The anterior region of the mandible is generally considered to be a safe region to invasive procedures; however, on its internal face, uncountable penetrating canals may be encountered.

Objective: To perform morphometrical and topographical analysis of endosseous canals located at the inner side of the mandibular anterior region, using cone-beam computed tomography.

Methods: Forty-six examinations were digitally analyzed. Localization of canals in relation to the midline, trajectories, communications between other anatomic structures and relation with teeth were evaluated. Longitudinal and transversal diameters of the canals and distances to the lower edge and symphysis of the mandible were also measured.

Results: All individuals had at least 1 canal, with a mean of 2.3 and higher prevalence in the midline region. The adjacent teeth to the canals were usually the incisors but the authors could not determine the connected anatomical structure in most patients. Both the mean diameters were quite similar, about 1 mm; however, the trajectories and distances to the lower edge and symphysis of mandible showed a remarkable heterogeneity among the individuals.

Conclusions: These endosseous canals are consistent and clinically relevant findings and should never be underestimated by professionals.

HLA-G Polymorphisms of The 3'-UTR Region Are Involved in Susceptibility to Non-Infectious Uveitis.

Ocul Immunol Inflamm

January 2025

Departamento de Inmunología, Oftalmología y ORL, Facultad de Medicina, Universidad Complutense de Madrid, Madrid, Spain.

Purpose: HLA-G is a non-classical HLA class I gene encoding a molecule endowed with immunomodulatory properties, playing important immunosuppressive and tolerogenic roles in immuno-privileged organs. Fluctuations in its expression levels have been correlated with the predisposition to autoinflammatory disorders, notably uveitis, characterized by inflammation of the uvea. In the present work, DNA was obtained from saliva samples of 147 Spanish patients with uveitis, with subsequent analysis focusing on the distribution of polymorphisms within the 3'UTR region of the gene (a region known to modulate the expression of the HLA-G molecule).

Reward Decision Network Disconnection in Poststroke Apathy: A Prospective Multimodality Imaging Study.

Hum Brain Mapp

February 2025

Apathy is a common neuropsychiatric symptom following stroke, characterized by reduced goal-directed behavior. The reward decision network (RDN), which plays a crucial role in regulating goal-directed behaviors, is closely associated with apathy. However, the relationship between poststroke apathy (PSA) and RDN dysfunction remains unclear due to apathy heterogeneity, the confounding effect of depression and individual variability in lesion impacts.

Objectives: This experimental study compared the accuracy of implant insertion using the free-hand (FH) technique, static computer-aided surgery (S-CAIS), or dynamic computer-assisted surgery (D-CAIS) and to evaluate the correlation of learning curves between surgeons' experience and surgical time.

Materials And Methods: Thirty-six models were randomly assigned to three groups (FH, n = 12; S-CAIS, n = 12; D-CAIS, n = 12). Each model was planned to receive four implants in the maxillary anterior and posterior regions.

Morphine dependence or addiction is a serious global public health and social problem, and traditional treatments are very limited. Deep brain stimulation (DBS) has emerged as a new potential treatment for drug addiction. Repeated use of morphine leads to neuroadaptive and molecular changes in the addiction-related brain regions.
