Objective: To investigate the serum levels of Interleukin (IL)-17 and eotaxin levels and the relationship between serum IL-17, eotaxin and pulmonary function in asthmatic patients with allergic rhinitis.

Methods: Serum IL-17 and eotaxin levels in asthmatic patients with allergic rhinitis during attacking and remission and in healthy control subjects were measured using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) kits. Then we studied the correlation between the serum IL-17, eotaxin levels and pulmonary function in patients.

Results: Serum IL-17 and eotaxin levels were significantly elevated in patients during asthma attack and remission compared with healthy control subjects. These levels in patients during asthma attack were much higher than those during remission. Furthermore, serum IL-17 and eotaxin levels were negatively correlated with pulmonary function in asthmatic patients with allergic rhinitis, respectively.

Conclusion: Our findings suggest that IL-17 and eotaxin are important factors in asthma with allergic rhinitis, and the correlation between serum IL-17, eotaxin and lung function possibly lead to improvements in the diagnosis and treatment of asthma with allergic rhinitis and related diseases.

Introduction: Cytokines and chemokines direct the inflammatory response and may serve as markers of immune dysregulation in Pemphigus vulgaris (PV), an autoimmune blistering skin disorder. Previous studies on limited numbers of patients and cytokine profiles in PV have produced equivocal results regarding the role these mediators play in disease.

Methods: In this study, we interrogated serum samples from 116 PV patients and 29 healthy controls by multiplexed bead array assays across a comprehensive set of cytokines and chemokines covering several functional categories, including IL-1α, IL-1β, IL-2, IL-4, IL-5, IL-6, IL-8, IL-9, IL-10, IL-12, IL-13, IL-15, IL-17, IL-21, IL-22, IL-23, TNFα, IFNγ, MCP-1, and Eotaxin.

Background: Pregnancy is a complex biological process and serious complications can arise when the delicate balance between the maternal and semi-allogeneic fetal immune systems is disrupted or challenged. Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), pre-eclampsia, preterm birth, and low birth weight pose serious threats to maternal and fetal health. Identification of early biomarkers through an in-depth understanding of molecular mechanisms is critical for early intervention.

The role of circulating cytokines in heart failure: a bidirectional, two-sample Mendelian randomization study.

Front Cardiovasc Med

October 2024

General Internal Medicine Department, Guang'anmen Hospital, China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences, Beijing, China.

Article Synopsis
  • Cytokines are crucial in heart failure (HF) by affecting inflammation and vascular health, yet it's challenging to determine their direct role from observational studies.
  • The research utilized Mendelian randomization to analyze the genetic links between 41 cytokines and HF, using specific HF and cytokine datasets to perform various statistical analyses.
  • Key results revealed that high levels of certain cytokines linked to inflammation increased HF risk, while HF also influenced levels of several other cytokines, suggesting a complex genetic interplay between cytokines and heart failure.

Immunometabolism, Department of Nutrition, Nursing School, Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais, Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Brazil. Electronic address:

Objectives: We aimed to evaluate the acute effect of a fructose-rich single meal on metabolic and inflammatory biomarkers RESEARCH METHODS AND PROCEDURES: This single-center, double-masked, randomized crossover trial recruited females aged 20 to 47 with a normal body mass index and was conducted at Hospital das Clínicas (Belo Horizonte, MG, Brazil). Participants received a standardized meal with either sucrose, glucose, or a fructose overload. Blood samples were collected after overnight fasting (baseline) and at 30, 60, 120, and 240 minutes postprandial.

Objective: To identify gingival crevicular fluid (GCF)-derived inflammatory markers of periodontitis progression and periodontal treatment impact.

Methods: Periodontally healthy (H; n = 112) and periodontitis (P; n = 302) patients were monitored bi-monthly for 1 year without therapy. Periodontitis patients were re-examined 6 months after non-surgical periodontal therapy (NSPT).
