To increase the production of methane, when cattle manure (CM) is digested, pretreatments can be applied and/or the manure can be co-digested with other wastes. In this research work, a mixture of CM, food waste (FW) and raw glycerine (Gly) in a proportion in weight of 87% CM, 10% FW and 3% Gly was digested, (a) without pretreatment and (b) with pretreatment by ultrasound, applying a sonication energy of 1040 kJ/kg total solids. Specific methane production was 290 L CH/kg volatile solids (VS) without pretreatment and 520 L CH/kg VS with pretreatment. With respect to the volumetric methane production, 1.07 L CH/L.day was produced in the first case, and in the second case, 1.98 L CH/L.day. We can conclude that the application of ultrasound pretreatment significantly improved the production of biogas.

The duration of the response to radiotherapy-related treatment is a critical prognostic indicator for patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). Persistent tumor status, including residual tumor presence and early recurrence, is associated with poorer survival outcomes. To address this, we developed a prediction model to identify patients at a high risk of persistent tumor status prior to initiating treatment.

Evaluating Neoadjuvant Immunochemotherapeutic Response for Bladder Carcinoma Using Amide Proton Transfer-Weighted MRI.

Acad Radiol

January 2025

Department of Radiology, The First Affiliated Hospital, Sun Yat-Sen University, 58 Zhongshan Road 2, Guangzhou, 510080, Guangdong, PR China (L.K., B.W., Q.C., L.M., W.C., Y.C., Y.G., H.W.). Electronic address:

Rationale And Objectives: To investigate the feasibility of amide proton transfer-weighted (APTw) and diffusion-weighted MRI in evaluating the response of bladder cancer (BCa) to neoadjuvant immunochemotherapy.

Materials And Methods: From June 2021 to July 2023, participants with pathologically confirmed BCa were prospectively recruited to undergo MRI examinations, including APTw and diffusion-weighted MRI before and after neoadjuvant immunochemotherapy. Histogram analysis features (mean, median, and entropy) were extracted from pre- and post-treatment APTw and apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) maps, respectively.

Agarwood essential oil is prized for its elegant aroma and pharmacological properties; however, the traditional hydrodistillation method suffers from inefficiencies, constraining the industrial potential of agarwood. We proposed an ultrasonic-assisted laccase synergistic pretreatment technique that enhanced extraction throughput by 70.90 % compared to the traditional method by facilitating pore formation in agarwood and expediting the release of essential oil.

This study systematically investigated the effects of ultrasonic treatment timing on the formation and emulsifying properties of chickpea protein isolate (CPI) and citrus pectin (CP) complexes. Results showed that introducing ultrasound during the CPI pre-treatment stage significantly enhanced the emulsifying activity and stability of the complexes. Notably, compared with the independent CPI, the emulsifying activity index of CPIU-CP soared from 0.
