β-Thalassemia is genetic disorder characterized by β-globin chain deficiency resulting from mutations in the β-globin coding gene. Both the quantity and quality of blood produced will be impacted by this condition. The distribution of mutation causing thalassemia is vary across ethnic and different regions in Indonesia.

Background: The frequency of the beta-thalassemia (β-thalassemia) gene in Indonesia ranges from 3 to 10%. However, in the East Java province, there is still limited information on the prevalence of β-thalassemia mutations in clinically diagnosed beta-thalassemia patients of East Java. Background: Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is an organ-specific autoimmune disease related to the autoimmune response against pancreatic β-cells. Zinc transporter 8 (ZnT8), an islet-specific gene product localized to the β-cell insulin granule, was recently identified as an autoantigen in T1D.
Purpose: To evaluate the use of ZnT8 autoantibody (ZnT8A) for diagnosing T1D.
