We report synthesis and time-resolved transient absorption measurements of TiS3 nanoribbons. TiS3 nanoribbons were fabricated by direct reaction of titanium and sulfur. Dynamics of the photocarriers in these samples were studied by transient absorption measurements. It was found that following ultrafast injection of nonequilibrium and hot photocarriers, the thermalization, energy relaxation, and exciton formation all occur on a subpicosecond time scale. Several key parameters describing the dynamical properties of photocarriers, including their recombination lifetime, diffusion coefficient, mobility, and diffusion length, were deduced.

High-sensitive uncooled mid-wave infrared (MWIR) photodetection with fast speed is highly desired for biomedical imaging, optical communication, and night vision technology. Low-dimensional materials with low dark current and broadband photoresponse hold great promise for use in MWIR detection. Here, this study reports a high-performance MWIR photodetector based on a titanium trisulfide (TiS) nanoribbon.

Titanium trisulfide (TiS) nanoribbons, when coated with titanium dioxide (TiO), can be used for water splitting in the KOH electrolyte. TiO shells can be prepared through thermal annealing to regulate the response of TiS/TiO heterostructures by controlling the oxidation time and growth atmosphere. The thickness and structure of the TiO layers significantly influence the photoelectrocatalytic properties of the TiS/TiO photoanodes, with amorphous layers showing better performance than crystalline ones.

The method of salt-assisted vapor-liquid-solid (VLS) growth is introduced to synthesize 1D nanostructures of trichalcogenide van der Waals (vdW) materials, exemplified by niobium trisulfide (NbS). The method uses a unique catalyst consisting of an alloy of Au and an alkali metal halide (NaCl) to enable rapid and directional growth. High yields of two types of NbS 1D nanostructures, nanowires and nanoribbons, each with sub-ten nanometer diameter, tens of micrometers length, and distinct 1D morphology and growth orientation are demonstrated.

Doping usually reduces lattice thermal conductivity because of enhanced phonon-impurity scattering. Here, we report unexpected doping effects on the lattice thermal conductivity of quasi-one-dimensional (quasi-1D) van der Waals (vdW) TiS nanoribbons. As the nanoribbon thickness reduces from ~80 to ~19 nm, the concentration of oxygen atoms has a monotonic increase along with a 7.
