A 70-year-old woman, with a previous history of heat-stroke, suffered another heat-stroke on a hot summer day (air temperature 43 degrees C (109 degrees F)). She presented the rare complication of a heat-stroke plus deep burns sustained while lying unconscious on the pavement. In addition to age, obesity, previous illness, incidental fever, drugs, dehydration and physical effort, a previous history of heat-stroke is probably an important risk factor for a second heat-stroke. Burns from contact with the pavement are uncommon but possible, especially if the patient is obese, immobile and poorly insulated.

Studies on triaxial contact stresses and asphalt pavement rutting are of great significance for traffic safety and the durability of the asphalt pavement. Our new approach considers more evaluating indicators by investigating compressive creep, vertical, and longitudinal permanent deformation to analyse asphalt pavement rutting under triaxial contact stress during typical driving conditions. For this purpose, firstly sophisticated three-dimensional finite element models encompassing the truck-bus tire and asphalt pavement temperature are developed.

This study aimed to investigate the influence of different coarse aggregate mineral compositions on the skid resistance performance of asphalt pavement. The imprint method was utilized to assess the contact probability between various graded asphalt surface aggregates and tires. Additionally, macroscopic adhesive friction coefficients between polished surfaces of three types of rock slabs (basalt, limestone, granite) and rubber were determined using a pendulum friction tester.

In order to further enhance the erosion resistance of cement concrete pavement materials, this study constructed an apparent rough hydrophobic structure layer by spraying a micro-nano substrate coating on the surface layer of the cement concrete pavement. This was followed by a secondary spray of a hydroxy-silicone oil-modified epoxy resin and a low surface energy-modified substance paste, which combine to form a superhydrophobic coating. The hydrophobic mechanism of the coating was then analysed.
