Introduction: This study aimed to identify patients at risk for venous thromboembolism (VTE) among all patients hospitalised, and to determine the proportion of at-risk hospital patients who received effective types of VTE prophylaxis in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA).
Methods: A multinational, observational, cross-sectional survey was carried out on 1 583 at-risk patients throughout five SSA countries.

The techniques of vascularized transfer of a bone segment, or of revascularization of a conventional bone autograft by a pedicle or a microsurgical muscular flap represent one of the most significant advances made during the last years for the treatment of large bone defects of the tibia with associated skin injury. The authors present their experience with 16 cases, including 5 microsurgical transfers.

A technique of osteosynthesis of the clavicle with Hoffmann external fixation was used to treat twenty patients for selected indications, including an open fracture, inability of a patient to tolerate prolonged conservative treatment, or a painful non-union. No vascular or pleural complication was observed. The average time that the external fixator was retained was fifty-one days.
