Introduction: Understanding predictors of smoking cessation medication efficacy facilitates the ability to enhance treatment effectiveness. In our pilot trial, exenatide, a glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonist, adjunct to nicotine patch improved smoking abstinence compared to nicotine patch alone. This secondary analysis explores potential baseline characteristics associated with differential treatment response to exenatide.

: Post-transplant diabetes mellitus (PTDM) and prediabetes (PreDM) are common after renal transplantation and increase the risk of cardiovascular events and mortality. Compared to immediate-release tacrolimus (IR-Tac), the LCPT formulation, with delayed absorption, offers higher bioavailability and a smoother time-concentration curve, potentially reducing beta-cell stress. : This randomized pilot trial compared de novo immunosuppression with IR-Tac (twice daily) and LCPT (once daily).

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates how personalized dietary approaches using continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) can effectively manage post-prandial glucose response (PPGR) in older adults with prediabetes or early type 2 diabetes.
  • Data collected over two weeks indicated that measures like the mean amplitude of glucose excursions (MAGE) and fasting glucose levels were strong predictors of glucose response during meals and oral glucose tolerance tests.
  • The findings suggest CGM-based strategies could enhance personalized nutrition and medical interventions for better controlling glucose levels in this demographic.

The objective of this study was to develop and evaluate a novel behavioral intervention (PRIME2) that integrates evidence-based approaches for reducing diabetes risk and perceived stress. We conducted a pilot randomized controlled trial of the 16-session PRIME2 intervention vs. usual care among 40 Spanish-speaking Latinx adults with prediabetes and body mass index (BMI) ≥ 25 kg/m.
