To identify predominant metabolic pathway for cellulose methanization new equations that take into account dynamics of 13C are added to the basic model of cellulose methanization. The correct stoichiometry of hydrolysis, acidogenesis, acetogenesis and methanogenesis steps including biomass is considered. Using experimental data by Laukenmann et al. [Identification of methanogenic pathway in anaerobic digesters using stable carbon isotopes. Eng. Life Sci. 2010;10:1-6], who reported about the importance of ace`tate oxidation during mesophilic cellulose methanization, the model confirmed that, at high biomass concentration of acetate oxidizers, the carbon isotope fractionation factor amounts to about 1.085. The same model, suggested firstly for cellulose degradation, was used to describe, secondly, changes in, and in methane and carbon dioxide during mesophylic acetate methanization measured by Grossin-Debattista [Fractionnements isotopiques (13C/12C) engendres par la methanogenese: apports pour la comprehension des processus de biodegradation lors de la digestion anaerobie [doctoral thesis]. 2011. Bordeaux: Universite Bordeaux-1;2011. Available from: http://ori-oai.u-bordeaux1.fr/pdf/2011/GROSSIN-DEBATTISTA_JULIEN_2011.pdf . French].The model showed that under various ammonium concentrations, at dominating acetoclastic methanogenesis, the value decreases over time to a low level (1.016), while at dominating syntrophic acetate oxidation, coupled with hydrogenotrophic methanogenesis, slightly increases, reaching 1.060 at the end of incubation.

The biomethanization of lignocellulosic wastes remains an inefficient and complex process due to lignin structures that hinder the hydrolysis step, therefore, some treatments are required. This work describes the addition of an enriched microbial consortium in the biomethanization of rice straw. The experiment was carried out in lab batch reactors following two strategies: (i) pretreatment of rice straw for 48 h using the enriched microbial consortium (dilution 1:100), and (ii) addition of this enriched microbial consortium (dilution 1:100) directly to the anaerobic reactors (bioaugmentation).

Biochemical methane potential tests using water hyacinth (WH), pretreated water hyacinth (PWH), and Hydrilla verticillata (HV) as substrates using sewage media were explored. This study replaced the freshwater required to prepare the slurry for AD of organic solid waste with domestic sewage. Cow dung was used as the inoculum.

Understanding of the structure and interfacial merits that reactive metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) undergo is critical for constructing efficient catalysts for non-thermal plasma-assisted conversion of greenhouse gases. Herein, we proposed a free-standing bimetallic (Co/Ni) MOFs supported on bacterial cellulose (BC) foams (Co/Ni-MOF@BC) toward the coaxial dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) plasma-catalytic system, of which the Co/Ni ions coordination demonstrated an intriguing textual uplifting of the malleable BC nanofiber network with abundant pores up to micrometer-scale, which could impart a more intensive predominant filamentary microdischarge current to 180 mA with stronger plasma-catalytic interaction. Remarkably, compared to the monometallic MOF@BC foams, this bimetallic Co/Ni-MOF@BC also delivered a substantially improved alkaline absorption ability as further confirmed by the CO- temperature-programmed desorption (TPD) result.

Reducing carbon dioxide (CO) levels in the atmosphere is crucial for combating global warming. One effective strategy involves using porous materials for the combined processes of CO capture and catalytic conversion. In this study, we developed composite aerogel materials using cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs) as templates, doped with cerium oxide, to enhance CO capture and conversion.
