During the 1970s there was a gross loss of public confidence in infant diphtheria-tetanus-pertussis (DTP) vaccination in the UK. As well as febrile reactions and convulsions, permanent neurological damage was ascribed to the pertussis component of the vaccine, and those concerns resonated worldwide. The subsequent recognition of human herpes virus 6 (HHV-6) and 7 (HHV-7) as common sources of fever in infancy suggests that they were the main underlying cause of what was reported as DTP constitutional side-effects. With more precise data on the incidence of HHV-6/7 and other virus infections in early life it would be possible to model the concurrence of viral illnesses with routine immunizations. Adventitious viral infections may be the cause of side-effects ascribed to the numerous childhood immunizations now being given.

Oxidative stress and neuronal apoptosis could be an important factor leading to post-hemorrhagic consequences after germinal matrix hemorrhage (GMH). Previously study have indicated that relaxin 2 receptor activation initiates anti-oxidative stress and anti-apoptosis in ischemia-reperfusion injury. However, whether relaxin 2 activation can attenuate oxidative stress and neuronal apoptosis after GMH remains unknown.

Basic leucine zipper (bZIP) transcription factors serve as crucial regulators in plants' response to abiotic stress; however, its function in grapevine heat tolerance is still largely unknown. Here, we undertook a comprehensive investigation of grape genome, leading to the identification of 65 VvbZIP genes, among which 16 VvbZIPs were significantly induced under heat stress. Overexpression of VvbZIP36 enhanced heat tolerance in grape calli, while virus-induced gene silencing (VIGS) of VvbZIP36 reflected thermal sensitivity.

N6-methyladenosine (m6A) is the most prevalent internal modification on mRNA and plays critical roles in various biological processes including virus infection. It has been shown that m6A methylation is able to regulate virus proliferation and host innate immunity in mammals and plants, however, this antiviral defense in insects is largely unknown. Here we investigated function of m6A and its associated methyltransferases in nucleopolyhedrovirus (BmNPV) infection in silkworm.

Background: The proportion of people living with HIV (PLWHIV) co-infected with HCV in Mexico was unknown. Our aim was to estimate the seroprevalence of HCV among adults with HIV in Mexico.
Methods: Using a complex-survey design, we collected blood samples and applied structured questionnaires between May 2nd, 2019 and February 17th, 2020 in a nationally, representative sample of adults receiving care for HIV-infection in 24 randomly selected HIV-care centres in 8 socio-demographically regions in Mexico.

Despite N-methyladenosine (mA) being closely involved in various pathophysiological processes, its potential role in liver injury is largely unknown. We designed the current research to study the potential role of fat mass and obesity-associated protein (FTO), an mA demethylase, on hepatic ischemia-reperfusion injury (IRI). Wild-type mice injected with an adeno-associated virus carrying fat mass and obesity-associated protein (AAV-FTO) or adeno-associated virus carrying green fluorescent protein (GFP) (AAV-GFP) were subjected to a hepatic IRI model in vivo.
