AI Article Synopsis

  • The r package "stratag" is a user-friendly toolkit designed for population genetics analysis.
  • It offers standard genetic summaries and allows for quick manipulation of stratified genetic data for custom analyses, including tests of population subdivision with various measures.
  • The package supports integration with popular external programs and other R packages, and it's an open-source tool that will evolve based on user feedback.

Article Abstract

We introduce the r package stratag as a user-friendly population genetics toolkit. stratag provides easy access to a suite of standard genetic summaries as well as the ability to rapidly manipulate stratified genetic data for custom analyses. Tests of population subdivision with most common measures of population subdivision (e.g., F , G , Φ , Χ ) can be conducted within a single function. The package also provides wrapper functions that allow users to configure and run popular external programs such as genepop, structure, and fastsimcoal from within r, and smoothly interface with popular r packages adegenet and pegas. stratag is intended to be an open-source dynamic package that will grow with future needs and user input.

Attenuated sex-related DNA methylation differences in cancer highlight the magnitude bias mediating existing disparities.

Biol Sex Differ

December 2024

State Key Laboratory of Genetic Engineering, School of Life Sciences, Human Phenome Institute, Fudan University, Shanghai, China.

Background: DNA methylation (DNAm) influences both sex differences and cancer development, yet the mechanisms connecting these factors remain unclear.

Methods: Utilizing data from The Cancer Genome Atlas, we conducted a comprehensive analysis of sex-related DNAm effects in nine non-reproductive cancers, compared to paired normal adjacent tissues (NATs), and validated the results using independent datasets. First, we assessed the extent of sex differential DNAm between cancers and NATs to explore how sex-related DNAm differences change in cancerous tissues.

Background: Early identification of gestational diabetes mellitus is essential for improving maternal and neonatal outcomes. While risk factors such as advanced maternal age, elevated pre-pregnancy body mass index, multiparity, and a history of gestational diabetes have been recognized, the role of serum biomarkers remains uncertain. This study explores the predictive value of early-pregnancy laboratory findings in conjunction with maternal demographic and clinical characteristics for gestational diabetes mellitus.
