Background: The incidence of iatrogenic injuries in peripheral arteries is increasing due to the expanding opportunities of managing various cardiovascular diseases by means of percutaneous intervention. Thus, endovascular repair with implantation of covered stent (CS) after vascular injury is gaining importance as an alternative to open surgery. In cases of smaller side-branch injuries, stenting of the main vessel with subsequent exclusion and sealing of the side-branch is associated with unfavourable revascularization rates and unpredictable ischemic complications in the corresponding supply area.

To investigate the endothelialization of covered and bare stents deployed in the canine carotid arteries and subclavian arteries for treating experimental aneurysms and arteriovenous fistulas, twenty aneurysms were created in 10 dogs, and 20 fistulas in another 10 dogs. The Willis balloon-expandable covered stent and a self-expandable covered stent were used to treat these lesions, and a self-expandable bare stent was deployed in the subclavian artery for comparison. Followed up for up to 12 months, the gross observation, pathological staining, and scanning electronic microscopic data were analyzed.

We report a 20-year-old female patient (76 Kg/164 cm) with an extra-cardiac Fontan circulation who was referred to our institution for exertional dyspnoea and desaturation. The patient was diagnosed with a large calcified thrombus at the level of the Fontan fenestration, protruding inside the lumen of the conduit and reducing the diameter by half with a 3 mmHg pressure gradient. Transcatheter stent expansion of the obstructed extra-cardiac conduit was done with a 48 mm long XXL PTFE-covered Optimus-CVS® under temporary cerebral embolic protection with a TriGUARD-3™ deflection filter device (Keystone Heart).

Purpose: We have developed a new microcatheter (designated "NSX") with an outer layer of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) at its tip. We compared the adhesion of the new NSX microcatheter and a conventional microcatheter with -butyl-2-cyanoacrylate (NBCA) in vitro and in swine blood vessels.

Materials And Methods: The 3 cm tip of the NSX microcatheter is composed of PTFE, which can be identified by double platinum markers.

Interventional Treatment of Budd-Chiari Syndrome.

Diagnostics (Basel)

April 2023

Department of Gastroenterology, University Hospital, 79106 Freiburg, Germany.

Medical treatment is regarded as the primary course of action in patients with Budd-Chiari syndrome (BCS). Its efficacy, however, is limited, and most patients require interventional treatment during follow-up. Short-segment stenosis or the occlusion (the so-called web) of hepatic veins or the inferior vena cava are frequent in Asian countries.
