ATM Expression and Activation in Ataxia Telangiectasia Patients with and without Class Switch Recombination Defects.

J Clin Immunol

January 2025

Research Center for Immunodeficiencies, Pediatrics Center of Excellence, Children´s Medical Center, Tehran University of Medical Sciences, 62 Qarib St., Keshavarz Blvd, Tehran, 14194, Iran.

Background: Ataxia telangiectasia mutated (ATM) kinase plays a critical role in DNA double-strand break (DSB) repair. Ataxia telangiectasia (A-T) patients exhibit abnormalities in immunoglobulin isotype expression and class switch recombination (CSR). This study investigates the role of residual ATM kinase expression and activity in the severity of A-T disease.

Antioxidant Response as a Candidate Prognostic Factor for Dengue Hypotensive and Hemorrhagic Complications: Results from a Nested Case-Control Study in Colombia.

Trop Med Infect Dis

January 2025

Centro de Atención y Diagnóstico de Enfermedades Infecciosas (CDI), Fundación INFOVIDA, Cra. 37 No. 51-126, Bucaramanga 680003, Colombia.

Dengue infection has been associated with oxidative stress (OS) induction; however, whether such a response predicts the development of complications remains unknown. We conducted a case-control study (1:2 ratio) nested within a cohort of febrile patients with a presumptive or confirmed diagnosis of dengue. Incident cases were patients who developed hypotension or severe bleeding during the follow-up, whereas controls did not.

Sarcoidosis is a granulomatous disease affecting multiple organ systems and poses a diagnostic challenge due to its diverse clinical manifestations and absence of specific diagnostic tests. Currently, blood biomarkers such as ACE, sIL-2R, CD163, CCL18, serum amyloid A, and CRP are employed to aid in the diagnosis and monitoring of sarcoidosis. Metabolomics holds promise for identifying highly sensitive and specific biomarkers.
