Published: June 2016

In the last 30 years numerous attempts have been made to improve the efficiency of the parabolic collectors in the electric power production, although most of the studies have focused on the industrial production of thermoelectric power. This research focuses on the application of this concentrating solar thermal power in the unexplored field of building construction. To that end, a mechatronic prototype of a hybrid paraboloidal and cylindrical-parabolic tracker based on the Arduido technology has been designed. The prototype is able to measure meteorological data autonomously in order to quantify the energy potential of any location. In this way, it is possible to reliably model real commercial equipment behavior before its deployment in buildings and single family houses.

The Effect of Absorbed Hydrogen on the Rotors of Steel Machining Products During Powerful Turbo Aggregate Repairs.

Materials (Basel)

December 2024

Department of Strength of the Materials and Structures in Hydrogen-Containing Environments, Karpenko Physico-Mechanical Institute, National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, 5 Naukova Str., 79601 Lviv, Ukraine.

Rotor shafts are the most heavily loaded and accident-prone parts of powerful turbine generators, which are cooled using hydrogen. To eliminate damage sustained during operations, repair work was carried out, including the removal of defective parts, surfacing, and turning. This study tested the machinability of the rotor shaft using prototypes made from 38KhN3MFA steel.

Tendon-driven continuum soft robots are currently applied in research and are given a promising perspective for future applications. For the routing of the tendons from the actuator to the point where the loading is demanded, two routing possibilities exist in the literature: internal routing of the tendons with the help of structurally embedded Bowden sheaths and external tendon routing where the tendon is not in contact with the soft structure. The application of the latter is a clear disadvantage for applications due to the high risk of interference with the tendon, for example, causing the tendon to break.

This article aims to develop a novel Artificial Intelligence-powered Internet of Things (AI-powered IoT) system that can automatically monitor the conditions of the plant (crop) and apply the necessary action without human interaction. The system can remotely send a report on the plant conditions to the farmers through IoT, enabling them for tracking the healthiness of plants. Chili plant has been selected to test the proposed AI-powered IoT monitoring and actuating system as it is so sensitive to the soil moisture, weather changes and can be attacked by several types of diseases.

Vehicular Internet of Things (IoT) is facilitated by efficient RF front ends with suppressed mutual coupling for enhanced spatial diversity and increased channel capacity. This paper presents a mutual coupling suppressed MIMO antenna with a hybrid decoupling technique for Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) communications, enabling IoT in automotive systems. The single elements consist of a radiating patch with a cleaving circular slot to introduce a capacitive effect on the radiating structure.

This work proposes a new rotary piezoelectric energy harvester using magnetic excitation inspired by the fan blade. The configuration and operating principle of the harvester are introduced. Then, the equivalent nonlinear model of the piezoelectric beam is established based on the Euler-Bernoulli theory and the Rayleigh-Ritz method.
