Palladium nanoparticles (Pd NPs) were formed by electrochemical reduction of Pd(NH3)4(3+) ions entrapped by ion exchange in poly(acrylic acid) (PAA) multilayer films grown by the Sharpless "click reaction." The alkyne (PAAalk) and azide (PAAaz) groups were covalently bound to the PAA, and the catalyzed buildup of the multilayer film was performed by electrochemical reduction of Cu(2+) to Cu(+). The size of the Pd NPs formed in Au/(PAAalk)3(PAAaz)2 multilayer films by the click reaction, that is, 50 nm, is larger than that of similar Pd NPs formed in electrostatically bound Au/(PAA)3(PAH)2 nanoreactors, that is, 6-9 nm, under similar conditions. A combination of electrochemical methods and electrochemical quartz crystal microbalance, polarization modulation infrared reflection absorption spectroscopy (PM-IRRAS), ellipsometry, and scanning electron microscopy has been used to follow these processes. Cyclic voltammetry of the resulting Pd NPs in a 0.1 M H2SO4 solution at 0.1 V·s(-1) shows the PdO reduction peak at the same potential as that on the clean Pd surface unlike the NPs formed in electrostatically self-assembled Au/(PAA)3(PAH)2 nanoreactors with a 0.2 V shift in the cathodic direction most probably because of the strong adsorption of amino groups on the Pd NP surfaces.

Background: The role of cyclic guanosine 3',5'-monophosphate (cGMP) after acute myocardial infarction (AMI) is not well understood despite its significance as a second messenger of natriuretic peptides (NPs) in cardiovascular disease. We investigated the association between the NP-cGMP cascade and left ventricular reverse remodelling (LVRR) in anterior AMI.

Methods: 67 patients with their first anterior AMI (median age, 64 years; male, 76%) underwent prospective evaluation of plasma concentrations of the molecular forms of A-type and B-type natriuretic peptide (BNP) and cGMP from immediately after primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PPCI) to 10 months post-AMI.

Phyto-nanotechnology provides an eco-friendly approach for synthesizing biocompatible metal nanoparticles (NPs) with therapeutic potential. (LI) has been historically valued for its diverse medicinal applications, especially its exceptional biological potency against various skin diseases, attributed to its rich abundance of bioactive compounds. Therefore, herein, plant-based iron and zinc NPs were biofabricated via sustainable and simple methods, using crude extracts of the aerial parts of LI as reducing, coating, and stabilizing agents.

Beyond their roles in adsorbing and transporting pollutants, microplastics (MPs) and nanoplastics (NPs), particularly polystyrene variants (PS-M/NPs), have emerged as potential accelerators for the transformation of coexisting contaminants. This study uncovered a novel environmental phenomenon induced by aged PS-M/NPs and delved into the underlying mechanisms. Our findings revealed that the aged PS-M/NP particles significantly amplified the photodegradation of common cephalosporin antibiotics, and the extent of enhancement was tightly correlated to the molecular structures of cephalosporin antibiotics.

This paper is devoted to the investigation of the plasmonic effect of metal nanoparticles (NPs) formed on the surface of the YAG: Bi, Ce, Yb phosphors in a temperature range between 4 and 300 K. Combination of a thin conversion layer with silver plasmonic nanostructures leads to increase of sensitizer absorption and emission efficiency. Enhancement of Bi luminescence in YAG epitaxial films with Ag NPs was observed upon cooling the samples below 200 K.

Recent Developments and Challenges in the Enzymatic Formation of Nitrogen-Nitrogen Bonds.

ACS Catal

The biological formation of nitrogen-nitrogen (N-N) bonds represents intriguing reactions that have attracted much attention in the past decade. This interest has led to an increasing number of N-N bond-containing natural products (NPs) and related enzymes that catalyze their formation (referred to in this review as NNzymes) being elucidated and studied in greater detail. While more detailed information on the biosynthesis of N-N bond-containing NPs, which has only become available in recent years, provides an unprecedented source of biosynthetic enzymes, their potential for biocatalytic applications has been minimally explored.
