Most efforts in the development of antimicrobials have focused on the screening of lethal targets. Nevertheless, the constant expansion of antimicrobial resistance makes the antibiotic resistance determinants themselves suitable targets for finding inhibitors to be used in combination with antibiotics. Among them, inhibitors of antibiotic inactivating enzymes and of multidrug efflux pumps are suitable candidates for improving the efficacy of antibiotics. In addition, the application of systems biology tools is helping to understand the changes in bacterial physiology associated to the acquisition of resistance, including the increased susceptibility to other antibiotics displayed by some antibiotic-resistant mutants. This information is useful for implementing novel strategies based in metabolic interventions or combination of antibiotics for improving the efficacy of antibacterial therapy.

Background: Diagnosing and predicting neonatal sepsis is challenging because of its nonspecific symptoms, lack of diagnostic criteria consensus, and absence of early, sensitive, and specific diagnostic laboratory tests.
Purpose: To evaluate the diagnostic and prognostic potential of adrenomedullin (ADM), interleukin-6 (IL-6), and C-reactive protein (CRP) in late-onset neonatal sepsis (LOS).
Methods: We studied 53 neonates with culture-proven LOS by sampling at admission and on antibiotic treatment days 3 and 7.

The emergence of the multidrug-resistant (MDR) ST131 clone has significantly impacted public health. With traditional antibiotics becoming less effective against MDR bacteria, there is an urgent need for alternative treatment options. This study aimed to isolate and characterize four lytic phages (EC.

Despite the high sepsis-associated mortality, effective and specific treatments remain limited. Using conventional antibiotics as TIENAM (imipenem and cilastatin sodium for injection, TIE) is challenging due to increasing bacterial resistance, diminishing their efficacy and leading to adverse effects. We previously found that aloe-emodin (AE) exerts therapeutic effects on sepsis by reducing systemic inflammation and regulating the gut microbiota.

Novel therapeutic interventions are required to address the critical antimicrobial resistance caused by multidrug-resistant (MDR-PA) infections. This study examines the impact of combining delafloxacin with antibiotics on MDR-PA isolated from various samples. The minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs) of delafloxacin, alone and in combination with other antibiotics, were determined against forty distinct MDR-PA isolates using the broth microdilution method.

Background: Gorham-Stout disease (GSD) is a rare disease characterized by osteolysis and lymphatic malformations. GSD involving the spine is exceptionally rare and lacks a standard cure. The aim of this article was to report a case of GSD with scoliosis treated via corrective surgery and medication.
