Non-compaction of ventricular myocardium (NCVM) is a rare genetic disorder caused by intrauterine arrest of endomyocardial development. Left ventricle is the usual site of NCVM with very rare reports of isolated right ventricular non-compaction (IRVNC). We describe a case of asymptomatic IRVNC with unique EKG changes.

Giant aneurysm of right coronary artery fistula into left ventricle coexisting with noncompaction of left ventricular myocardium.

Ann Thorac Surg

October 2014

Department of Echocardiography, Beijing Anzhen Hospital, Capital Medical University, and Beijing Institute of Heart, Lung and Blood Vessel Disease, Beijing, China.

Coronary artery fistula (CAF) and noncompaction of the ventricular myocardium (NCVM) result from obliteration or compact failure of the intramyocardial trabecular sinusoids to form a ventricular cavity wall. The draining site of a right coronary artery (RCA) fistula may usually be the right ventricle, right atrium, or pulmonary artery. An RCA aneurysm with a fistula to the left ventricle is rare.

An unusual case of myocardial noncompaction involving both ventricles--case report.

Department of Internal Medicine (Cardiology), Cardiovascular Disease Center, The First Hospital of Jilin University, Norman Bethune College of Medicine, Changchun, PR China.

Noncompaction of ventricular myocardium (NCVM) is a rare congenital cardiomyopathy characterized by numerous excessively prominent trabeculations and intertrabecular recesses in the myocardium without any other cardiac structural abnormality. Transthoracic echocardiography is the imaging modality of choice for diagnosing NCVM. Although this disease commonly affects the left ventricle, the right ventricle or both ventricles can rarely be affected.

Unique features of non-compaction of the ventricular myocardium in Arab and African patients.

Cardiovasc J Afr

February 2009

Department of Pediatric Cardiology, Sudan Heart Centre, Khartoum, Sudan.

Non-compaction of the ventricular myocardium (NCVM) is an under-diagnosed cardiomyopathy. Patients diagnosed with NCVM at the King Abdulaziz Cardiac Centre, Riyadh, KSA from January 2000 to July 2004 and at the Sudan Heart Centre from August 2004 to July 2007 were included. Fifty-two patients with NCVM were identified (22 per 10 000 echocardiograms).
