Background: Insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1) is known as somatomedin C. This polypeptide hormone is functionally and structurally similar to insulin. IGF-1 effects on tissue by the IGF-1R and the insulin-like growth factor-binding protein also known as IGFBP. Abnormal IGF-1 and IGFBP signaling are positively correlated with a high risk of selected civilization diseases development. Physical inactivity is a one of the main causes of majority of chronic diseases and it is associated with eg. IGF-1 and IGFBPs level.

Objective: The aim of the study was to explanation the effect of physical activity on IGF-1 and its binding protein - IGFB- Ps concentration in the context of selected civilization diseases prevention. The review of clinical trial.

Material And Methods: The review of articles had published in databases: MEDLINE, EMBASE, Scopus and Web of Science until December 2015. The selected prospective studies about the effect of exercise on IGF-1 level and its binding protein IGFBP in the context of selected civilization diseases prevention were collected.

Results: The majority of the included studies indicate that mechanical loading is a key mechanism linking IGF-1/IGFBPs con- centration and selected chronic diseases development. The duration and intensity of physical activity have a significant impact on IGF-1 and IGFBP serum. The highest concentration of IGF-1 in serum was after eccentric training. "Overtraining" increases unfavorable and unbound IGF-1 levels and contributes to the increased incidence of hormone-cancer and osteoarthritis.

Conclusions: Irregularity of the GH/IGF-1 axis may affect on the development of rheumatic diseases, cardiovascular dis- eases (regulate cardiac growth and metabolism) and metabolic syndrome.

Interleukin-10 (IL-10) is an immunomodulatory molecule that may play an immunosuppressive role in nonmelanoma skin cancer (NMSC), specifically basal cell carcinoma (BCC). We analyzed the role of IL10 promoter variants in genetic determinants of BCC susceptibility and their association with IL10 mRNA and IL-10 serum levels. Three promoter variants (- 1082 A > G, - 819 T > C, and - 592 A > C) were examined in 250 BCC patients and 250 reference group (RG) individuals.

Background: Carbapenem-Resistant Gram-Negative Bacteria, including Carbapenem-Resistant Enterobacterales (CRE) and Carbapenem-Resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa (CRPA), are common causes of infections in intensive care units (ICUs) in Italy.

Objective: This prospective observational study evaluated the epidemiology, management, microbiological characterization, and outcomes of hospital-acquired CRE or CRPA infections treated in selected ICUs in Italy.

Methods: The study included patients with hospital-acquired infections due to CRE and CRPA treated in 20 ICUs from June 2021 to February 2023.

January 2025

LIFE - Leipzig Research Center for Civilization Diseases, Leipzig University, Philipp-Rosenthal-Strasse 27, 04103, Leipzig, Germany.

Background: Higher weight represents a significant health concern in youth and may be influenced by socioeconomic and behavioral factors. We investigated the relationship between BMI and parental education, nutritional health, eating culture, organized and non-organized physical activity (PA), motives for PA (weight loss/maintenance, enjoyment), and screen-time in children and adolescents.

Methods: 677 2- to 11-year-olds (young-age-group) and 464 12- to 20-year-olds (old-age-group) from Leipzig, a city in Germany, participated.

January 2025

Department of Infectious Diseases, Istituto Superiore di Sanità, Rome, Italy; ESCMID Study Group for Legionella Infections (ESGLI), Basel, Switzerland. Electronic address:

Background: Although antimicrobial resistance has not yet emerged as an overarching problem for Legionella pneumophila (Lp) infection, the description of clinical and environmental strains resistant to fluoroquinolones and macrolides is a cause of concern. This study aimed to investigate the antimicrobial susceptibility of Lp human isolates in Italy.

Methods: A total of 204 Lp clinical isolates were tested for sensitivity to nine antibiotics using the broth microdilution assay (BMD).

Key Laboratory of Organic Integrated Circuit, Ministry of Education & Tianjin Key Laboratory of Molecular Optoelectronic Sciences, Department of Chemistry, School of Science, Tianjin University, Tianjin, 300072, China. Electronic address:

Early diagnosis and treatment of gastric mucosal injury is crucial to prevent further gastritis and even canceration. As an efficient biocatalyst, single-atom nanozyme (SAzyme) is proposed to be an ideal candidate for the construction of multifunctional platforms. Nevertheless, SAzyme still faces challenges in detecting and treating diseases due to the complexity of preparation methods, limitations of enzyme activity, and undesirable biocompatibility.
